Exactly. He sure is good in handling an massive orchestra and he obviously gets a kick out of it, but it's in these small projects where he gets the opportunity to experiment where you can really see his talent. I love the samples, it really is a new sound although not very much removed from his The Killing Room style. Can't wait to hear it all!

Indeed. Add 'The Lazarus Project' to the list of his more subtle and experimental works.

    Tyler is beyond coolness punk

On the other hand, I love it when he does this kind of scores (Brake, Killing Room, Lazarus Project, etc), leaving his orchestral pyrotechnics aside (which I love as well by the way).

  3. Are we praising a composer just because he loves his job and can write for an orchestra?!

It does rather seem that way.

I certainly admire his enthusiasm but it doesn't have an impact on my opinion of his music (just as Bernard Herrmann being a pretty objectionable person doesn't have an impact on my opinion of his).
  4. Well yeah, it's great that he loves his job, but I'd rather he was a cynical asshole who can write a proper theme.

Ironic when it comes from somebody who adores Zimmer wink Tyler's movies have themes, all of them, even most notes than the standard Zimmer theme, most of the times. We are praising a guy who can write pretty good for any genre, plays all the instruments, orchestrates, arranges, records, mixes, is open with his work and generous, a great personality and face it, the directors love his modern style. He can mix the electronic world with the organic orchestra like few and let's face it, whether you like it or not, damning him makes you the cynic wink

  5. I really like Tyler's style. His writing today is fun to listen to. And he is currently one of the best at melding orchestra and rock together to fashion great-sounding music.

I think directors don't love his modern style but because he's happy like a little kid to rip off whatever they ask him to rip off, be it Silvestri/Goldenthal/Goldsmith to Zimmer or Horner.

Zimmer can write a proper brilliant theme in his own style (most recently Spanglish, for example), Tyler's best theme is one that he should be sued for.

As much as I warmed up to Tyler after Eagle Eye, which I really like, I do notice that he is one of the worst theme writers in Hollywood right now. If it's memorable it's a rip off, usually it's just a generic twist on a traditional anthem.

You're saying Zimmer's last brilliant and original theme was 7 years ago?

What about the love theme from AWE or the Rango theme? I swear nobody even listens to the Rango album because of the songs and dialogue, or else I should see at least a few comments about what a great score it is. Just because its reminiscent of Morricone does not mean its not also pure Zimmer.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!
