That looks pretty good actually. Besides, when you go to the pub you never know how things are gonna end up wink

That's it, every week. Unless there is a birthday party or something, but that would be no more than 5 times a year probably (perhaps even 3 the last couple of years!)... We used to go to the cinema with friends sometimes but that has been a long time as well. Poor social life. Oh well, there's always family. And we see friends on sundays sometimes, that's the kind of things you do when you have kids I guess...

But I don't like going to a pub. Never liked it much, not even in my younger years. It is crowded, expensive, crowded, there is smoke... oh, no wait. No smoke anymore! I really don't like it anyway. But have fun you all!

I have a bunch of friends in your situation, Bregje. They're established with families and I don't even bother calling them for a night on the town anymore. If they have the time to spare, they'll call ME, I'm sure. Fortunately, I do have some single friends left, so there are plenty of parties to be found.

At 31 and single in the city, I REFUSE to grow up. I'm not ready. Not yet.

Thank you for sharing that. smile

Since you have come "out of the closet" I might as well join you: my Saturday evenings are usually spent in a practice room with a piano. I used to try engaging in these nightly social activities, but everywhere you go people are expecting you to drink buckets of alcohol and to yell out chit-chat while there is loud music playing, so I've given up.

Well, perhaps I'm a bad example. I know many people with children who still go out.

On the other hand, I know some single people too who 'complain' about their friends with children who completely quit going out. I can understand that. Unfortunately some people think they quit having fun too.

It's too bad having a family has this image of... like your life is over. We know some other people as well who don't want to have kids because they think their life will be over when they have kids. It's all up to you. You can still go out, travel, study, work, it doesn't all end suddenly! But it takes some organisation, yes. That's the only difference.

And I probably don't like going out because I never liked it. Not because I have kids.
Like I said, the people we know who always liked to go out, still do so now that they have kids.

Haha, nicely put. That is my experience as well. smile

I always got the impression that there is only one way to enjoy it and that is to go along. If you don't drink, talk and dance it's no fun at all.

Sometimes I like to go 'wild', but that's usually at a party, like a wedding party or something. And then I've had enough for a long time. Oh, I do drink and dance and talk a lot at home though.

You're not alone Bregje, one of my very best friends who I've known since 1988 hates going to pubs and clubs, in all the time I've known him I know EXACTLY how many times he's been to a pub...5, and each time with me, I've only seen him drunk once. He's very sociable, just not in a drinking/pubs/clubs way.

There's more to socialising than pubs and clubs. Thankfully I like pubs, but I HATE clubs... which is a bit annoying at uni since EVERYONE likes going to clubs.

Why don't they cut out the middle man and have one big orgy?

Clubs and discos are fun, and I certainly don't go there to talk! Then again, there are many PUBS where they play loud music as well, so it's not that big of a difference. There are some places where they play too loudly, of course, but the day I begin to complain about loud music, dancing or too much alcohol...well then I'm getting too old! wink

    That is very true! shocked
Not having any kids I can only surmise why that is, but I guess it has something to do with the stressful and exhausting first months-with-baby. Most of my married friends-with-children simply seem to have given up after that (or gotten used to the routine).

Some of them have created convoluted theories on proper child management that involve a minimum amount of time that should be spent with the kids and the way the should be involved in Every. Single. Aspect. of life (basically turning them into conversation pieces rolleyes )
I don't see them much any more. slant

The friends I have that seem to be coping best (and interestingly seem to have the best behaved, sweetest, nicest and easy-going kids) are the ones that simply take everything in stride: they haven't changed their lifestyles, philosophies and behaviour to revolve around the child. They've adopted the child into their already existing lives.
Exactly like Bregje says: it just takes a bit more organization, but I still have the best time with them!

    So it can be done.
    Quite easily as well.
It just seems there are a LOT more people out there than used to be that are convinced (by an overdose of Doctor Phil or Oprah, most likely rolleyes ) your life is over once the first little one pops out.

Anyway, on Saturday I went out to a sushi bar with my sister and brother-in-law.
There was this conveyer belt running through the restaurant with little plates with different kinds of sushi on it: you could just pick up what you wanted!
Apparently it's quite a usual way of handling sushi in Japanese restaurants, But I never saw it before.
We had a great time...though the bill at the end was quite horrendous. shocked
(And I found out that Japanese beer though tasting quite mild has a bit of an afterkick christmas_drunk )

Played in the pop quiz last night where our six member team WON punk

An interesting "beer break" round ( beer break is where the quiz master takes a 20 minute break after handing out a quiz sheet to everyone to ponder over ) which consisted of 20 album covers with the title of the album blanked out, ranging from the easy ( Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon ) to the hard ( Stankonia by Outkast ), we got all 20 correct and I put in my own tuppence worth by getting two correct that no one else knew, Goldfrapp's 'Seventh Tree' and John Martyn's 'Solid Air', the latter being easy-peasy for me as it's one of my all time favourite albums.

    Tuesday 20th

Not sure how strong our team will be tonight? But we return as champions and hope to kick arse again. biggrin

Indeed. Nothing makes me feel more out-of-place and out-of-tune than being in the presence of two fathers (or mothers) chatting about child issues such as diapers and sleep deprivation or whatever. I'd like to say "Good for you, but I really don't care!". But of course, I can't.
