  1. I'm going to see him in Berlin next Wednesday with Sabrina! We had to fork over about 120 euros but Morricone is a living legend and this may well be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I'm not at all familiar with much of his career outside of the really famous stuff like The Mission and some of the westerns, so I bet it'll be quite an experience. smile

    It will be spectacular!

You'll enjoy a lot of it. It's usually all his famous works and crowd pleasers. The Mission (On Earth as it is in Heaven) is stunning!

Morricone regrets not scoring A CLOCKWORK ORANGE

    http://www.channel4.com/news/ennio-morr … diso-video

If he had he'd now be saying how he always regretted working for Stanley Kubrick who threw his score out and replaced it with Beethoven. wink

And Wendy Carlos. Love that score but I would also love to know Morricone's take on the material.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Interesting article regarding Morricone's comment on current state of film music

  3. Well, yes, but on the other hand: So many great orchestral scores have been released during the last three or four years - not least in Hollywood - it feels like a renaissance of the traditional style to me. It seems to me that bickering on functional, generic film music has turned into a cliché itself. And what's more: Not even in the 50s and late 70s every score was a masterpiece.

Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  4. I'd hardly call these last few years a renaissance (not the way Williams and Star Wars in 1977 were a renaissance), but so many fantastic scores are written every year and these "current state of film music" complaints don't hold much water with me at all. If the state of film music was half as bad as some people make it sound then we wouldn't listen to it anymore.

I'm not entirely convinced there is any new interview material there, I've seen virtually all of it before from him in one form or another.

Morricone scoring Tarantino's The Hateful Eight according to Variety.
  5. They said the same about DJANGO UNCHAINED. I'll believe it when I listen to it.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Morricone composed a mass for the Pope -

Report in English (and excerpts from the performance) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmnyM_fHrm0

The Finale - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6pi6RuOr48 (more pieces from the performance is on that YouTube channel)

I think I can hear The Mission in that finale.

Yes, definitely. Hope it gets a CD (but it probably won't - the proportion of Morricone music that's never released is astonishing).

Cool! I can only imagine the fanboy enthusiasm Tarantino feels in that moment.

Morricone will write a full score for the film Tarentino confirmed -

"‘The Hateful Eight’ Will Have an Original Score by Ennio Morricone

I want to make one announcement that people don’t know yet. It wasn’t for sure, but we just settled it. You guys know that I don’t use an original score in my movies, I kinda take scores from other movies and put ‘em in there. This one, I thought should have an original score. So I’m here to announce that the great Ennio Morricone will be doing the score for The Hateful Eight. He’s writing right now, and recording in Prague in the next couple of weeks."

Amazing! It sounds like it's really going to happen this time!

Btw, I'm not sure who this Eno Morricone is who hasn't scored a western in 40 years. I do know a guy though by the name of Ennio Morricone who hasn't scored a western in 34 years. I hope Tarantino was talking about the latter.

Anyway, an amazing announcement for sure, so I already feel bad about the sarcasm. wink
