NP: Walton: Symphony No. 1 (LSO Live) - Sir William Walton (London Symphony Orchestra & Sir Colin Davis)

A truly great symphony. The first time I heard it, I couldn't stand the dissonance, but now I relish it. cheesy punk

An interesting listen between Rimsky-Korsakov's "Overture on Russian Themes" and Taneyev's. Both use the same folk song.

I have a very nice 2 CD set of Rimsky-Korsakov material (130+) minutes I'm having a listen to while working on yet more packing. This set doesn't include his symphonies or Scheherazade so it is a lot of orchestral material he wrote for his opera's (16 of them). He would have been such a wonderful film composer.

    NP : 50th Anniversary - Sergei Prokofiev

One of those 'taster' CD's, it came free with a Classical Music Magazine. 22 tracks so it really is just a small taste of many works but it's arranged nicely. Basically it's a promo for Prokofiev works on the CHANDOS label.

Not one that often gets a mention but it's such a gorgeous little work.

Steven, if you have this give it a spin when you have the chance and tell me what you think? I believe ( if you haven't heard it already? ) you'll like this.
