I don't know the score to Temple at all well, but I'm just hoping that really warm rendition of the villagers theme when Indy and Short Round are sitting on that hill near the beginning is there. *fingers crossed*

Nope! That pisses me off, too!

You are kidding me. I get why we don't have the silly 20 second cues (I wouldn't miss them), but to be missing over 20 minutes of music from Temple and Crusade is unforgivable.

I guess that means another release in years to come... rolleyes
  1. After a quick search the only of Rombi's scores you mentioned, Demetris, was 5 x 2 and Jeux d'enfants. 5 x 2 is very affordable but...what can you tell me about all the music not by Rombi on the disc? It looks like less than half of it was original score. Jeux d'enfants was $90 used. I'll keep looking.

Bienvenue Chez Les Ch'tis and The Swimming Pool both seem to be widely available. Have you heard those?

Just finished playing: Matilda - David Newman
I'm not a huge fan of this score. It's too zany with too few highlights and feels much longer than it's 60 min. running time. Why do I listen to it, then? Because I make myself listen to almost every new CD I get 4-5 times. Sometimes I wonder if that self-inflicted policy is worth it...

Chez Les Ch'tis and The Swimming Pool are some of his weaker scores; ou,mais and 5x2 are in the nature of Angel, only less sweeping but equally emotional and uplifting, heavily melodic. If i had to rate his top-5 scores, those would be (in no particular order)

    ANGEL
    SOUS LE SABLE
    MERRY CHRISTMAS
Une hirondelle a fait le printemps
and LOVE ME IF YOU DARE (Jeux d'enfants)

Does amazon.fr carry any of those? If you don't manage to find anything in reasonable prices, drop me a note and we'll see what we can do. Rombi is truly one of the most gifted composers in our days when it comes to melody and sweeping themes. Same goes for ADRIAN JOHNSTON and MARK McKENZIE, imo. Familiar with the gents?

Can't say I would buy them from Amazon.fr if they were there (for a variety of reasons, the least of which being I don't speak french or buy things with euros). The only thing I've heard of Adrian Johnston is Becoming Jane. It's very nice. I LOVE Mark McKenzie and almost everything of his I've heard. I have a handful of his scores.

NP: October Sky - Mark Isham. Lovely score. Rocket Boys and October Sky are excellent cues.

Yeap, heard it 3 times in a row. Loved every single bit of it but then again i am a huge sucker for organic middle eastern music with physical instruments. One different score this year, in my books.

Fantastic music! I read the book by Leon Uris many years ago ( a damn fine book too ) but I've never seen this.

Was it a made for TV movie or TV serialisation? Anyone here ever seen it?

EDITED TO ADD : Just answered my own question at IMDb, it's 390 minute long mini-series that won 10 Emmys.

p.s. the choral work is astounding.

Whiew. Been gone from the forum barely a week and over 500 posts to catch up with on this thread alone. Well, hopefully you can forgive me for skipping straight to the end.

    NP: Little Women, Thomas Newman
First listen. Astounding! That thing I call the "aggravating urban pizzicatto Thomas Newman sound" didn't make its appearance until track 3! Usually a Thomas Newman score is recognizable as such within the first 5 seconds. But this one started out quite lovely and blessedly generic, and seems to have other nice highlights throughout. This could possibly become more of my favourites Thomas Newman.

    Played earlier:
Equilibrium, Klaus Badelt (the new pressed-CD 86-minute boot. Amazing how they fit so much music on a single disc. Single-theme long score that surprisingly holds itself decently well)
La Resa dei Conti, Ennio Morricone (evidently a movie about the reign of Bill Conti. Classic Morricone!)
The Eye of the Devil, Gary McFarland (FSM has a great eye for great scores, even when the composer is utterly unknown)
Farscape Vol.3, Guy Gross (like a lot of television music, it's hard to appreciate without having seen the show, but I feel I could grow to like more moments on this one than the previous two volumes)

NP: Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron - Hans Zimmer

This morning suddenly I wanted to listen to this, so I'm playing my custom playlist (including some songs I like) several times. Homeland is one of my favorite movie themes. It's simple, like the story, but really catchy and beautiful. And the great track Run Free has full of energy and great joy.

Another favorite moment is, on the 2nd part of The Long Road Back, when "Homeland" theme follows after "Brothers Under The Sun" theme, and then guitar plays "Nothing I've Ever Known" love theme. I like the scene, too. The main characters can't speak any words, so music and animation (that is also amazing) tell everything.

My playlist (I excluded some Bryan Adams songs I dislike tongue )

    1. Homeland (Main Title) <--- brilliant
    2. Here I Am <--- I like the playful theme for Spirit as a colt
    3. This Is Where I Belong
    4. Rain
    5. Nothing I've Ever Known <--- but I prefer the instrumental version used in the movie sad
    6. The Long Road Back
    7. Run Free punk
    8. I Will Always Return (Finale) <--- it's a nice song, isn't it? wink

"Run Free" is probably my single favourite Hans Zimmer track ever.

    NP: Catwoman, Klaus Badelt
Another one of those new boots that somehow have 89 minutes on a single pressed disc. This score is unfortunately pretty formulaic... Too much derivative rock 'n roll action stuff, but the more somber parts will probably grow on me.

  3. Just listened to Men Don't Leave - Thomas Newman The last half of the last track on this is absolutely gorgeous--one of my all-time favorite musical moments by T. Newman.

    NP: Eagle Eye
Finally got it. The action material is a propulsive as the hype set it up to be. After just one listen I'm struggling to find a theme, but I already know that themes aren't Tyler's forte, outside his earlier scores in the vein of Darkness Falls and Frailty. His only recent thematic score, really, is Partition, but Partition and Eagle Eye don't make any pretense of trying to sound like each other. Eagle Eye has its own well-defined identity (that happens to be just like AVPR, but that's okay).

Yes, that is a very nice early score from Newman.

I love it too. After I saw the film, I adore it much more than before.

NP: The Power Of One - Hans Zimmer

After seeing French animated film Kirikou et la sorcière (Kirikou And The Sorceress), I wanted to play something African. Even though Youssou N'Dour's score on that film was totally different from Zimmer's.

Unimportant note: Lyrics of Penny Whistle Song sounds to me like Japanese words "ohikkoshi wa? ohikkoshi wa? (moving house? moving house?)" dizzy

Yes. I like parts of all his Bond scores but this one seems the most consistently-impressive. Casino Royale had one or two parts which are better than anything here, but this I find more impressive on the whole.

It has more energy than "Tomorrow", is more balanced with the electronics than "The World is not enough" and it has more color than "Casino Royale"....but it is better than Serra's Goldeneye? ahahaha wink
