And the (rest) of the wall to wall score for one of the most non pretentious films I´ve ever watched is actually really good.

This must be the most confusing thing i've heard this year, along with BENJAMIN BUTTON not having a proper theme. OORLOGSWINTER has some of the strongest thematic material from everything released this year, the only other thing i can think of coming closely is Defiance.

Apparently Bob and myself are of that rare, old fashioned ilk that does not consider three consecutive notes repeated once throughout a 50 minute score as an actual proper theme. biggrin

I am sorry but OORLOGSWINTER is nothing like that, i can't think how anyone would call it at such IF they've heard it throughout and properly? Do you share the same view about OORLOGSWINTER too?

Not a big fan of the score, but listening it to find some of foreshadowing of Zimmer's most recent sound. I think some stuff is there and yes, something more than Chevaliers de Sangreal.

    I LOVE THIS SCORE! punk

Now, now Marcel. I said it was generic crap ( and it IS ) but I didn't say it WASN'T enjoyable!?

It has some moments but I'm still glad I only have it on a CDR.....I would be gutted if I'd paid full price for it.

Well, there's a difference between a theme and a good theme and I don't think you should give composers credits for just the use of a theme. I have heard Oorlogswinter properly, but afterwards, I couldn't recall the theme, let alone that it sticked. I know there is one, and its repeated several times throughout (I can tell you where, I'm even listening to the piano rendition right now), yet it doesn't grab me. And thats why I said that there isn't 'strong thematic material'. smile.

Overall, I think its good, yet highly overrated. wink

And one of my favourites, a fantastic score with not a dull moment and the exotic / ethnic parts are just so damn refreshing compared to all the middle eastern wailing that seems to dominate a lot of modern scores.

Yes, Snake Eyes and Little Budah are amazing scores.

    NP:At world's End (Zimmer)

The OST mixed with the suites.

Someday...when the 2 cd's will be realeased in one, people will know how amazing this score is.

In my humble opinion, no matter what Zimmer will compose in his career, this score will reamin one of his bests. Because of his memorable themes ( Hes a pirate, Sparrow's themes, Davey Jones, Hoist the colours, the love theme, Lord Becket...), Because his real orchestrations, because of his mix of styles, because is the conclusion of a trilogy....

For the first time, a Zimmer action scores is recorded without reverb, without synths and almost like if the percusion was in your room. That's what zimmer can do when he leaves his lazzy composition ( King Arthur) or his experiments ( Black Hawk Down) aside. A real gem.

    beer beer :

I will play next : temple of the Doom

Wow man. Now with the complete realease this is one of my all time favourite scores for sure!

no no! I do really enjoy King Arthur and Black Hawk Down. I love them!

But this is a fact: King arthur is cool but lazzy in composition. Only horns, strings and percusio. There's not complexity. Only Sound design and coolness. Black Hawk Down is experimental.
