New to me is a Howard Shore score called Hugo. A definite European flavor to it with the accordion being featured. Have no clue what the movie is about.

It's located in Paris, hence the accordion. It's a mystery, leading to legendary director Georges Melies, and a love letter to the history of cinema. Oh, and it's a family film. It's warm, cudly and looks brilliant at times, but by no means a masterpiece. Score is nice indeed.

I wonder if anyone will agree with my review of Hugo?

Agreed 100%! My favourite film (and score) of the year.
  2. Me and THomas are going to go watch this movie on New Years Day.
I'll let you know what I thought of the movie and the score after watching it...

  3. I actually liked both the movie and the score.

I kinda knew what I was getting myself into (movie-wise) and therefore I wasn't dissapointed. I did leave the cinema with the feeling that I had just watched a man proclaim his love for the cinema (and he got me enthused as well).
Also, I liked the 3D use. It might not have been necessary, but it certainly didn't work against the movie. It was subtle, as Avatar was subtle. But only Avatar for me 'needed' 3D. It got me INTO and ONTO Pandora.

Also, I liked the score of Hugo. Some scenes to me were very functionally scored and left me untouched, but some of them just enveloped me like a warm blanket.

    Me like...

I have to say, watching it with Thomas of course was a bonus. Good company always adds to the film seeing experience for me.

Bregt, if two MT-members convene, can we call that a MT-meeting :p ?

  4. Wait, Thomas saw it in 3D too? Because he can't SEE 3D??? confused

I have a few couple of friends who can't watch 3D due to eye problems, both watched AVATAR in 2D.

  11. I watched Avatar in 3D and I somehow survived.

Bregt, the problem is that seeing in all three dimensions demands collaboration between both eyes. One eye is responsible for seeing, the other one for putting things in space. The nerves connect from the eye to a neural connection and together, the processed information goes further to the brain. I had neurological issues as an infant which led me to lack of that eye collaboration. It can be of course an ophtalmological problem, in my case it's purely neurological and, sadly, irreversible.

  12. So how was watching Avatar for you? Painful, strange, eye-opening? wink

  13. I might have missed most of the 3D effects (I've heard about specific effect regarding the subtitles which I didn't register), but except that it was OK.

I must have remembered it wrong, I knew you had an issue concerning 3D, but I thought it was with headache and not the fact that you actually can't watch 3D movies. You're not missing anything though!

He's missing the 3D! Which is a pretty big miss in both Avatar and Hugo.
