Did anyone in the Los Angeles see THE FLY opera yet? I'm curious what people think about it, if you've seen it.
My review is up here.....

Our friend Jim Ware saw it, care to chime in Jim?
My review of the Paris performance is at:

Does anyone know if there will be a score release for Doubt? I'm surprised there hasn't been any news posted yet. -
- CommentTimeJan 3rd 2009
Yes, as I recall Howe Records. And Shore recorded more score than was used in the film. Someone said he recorded about 31mins, and the movie had about 15.The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Academy Award -winning composer Howard Shore's orginal score to John Patrick Shanley's film Doubt starring Meryl Streep, Philip Symour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis. Doubt, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play brought to screen, is a story about the quest for truth, the forces of change, and the devastating consequences of blind justice in an age defined by moral conviction. The score, written for a 17 piece chamber orchestra, features hammered dulcimer, Appalachian dulcimer, harmonium, recorder, Celtic harp, mandolin and Irish bouzouki. "As the winds of political change seep through St. Nicholas in the Bronx, I hope to place you in this cloistered life and ask the question - did he or didn't he?"Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

The Betrayal is that movie about the American involvement in Laos during the Vietnam war? I didn't knew Shore scored that one!Kazoo -

Doubt fulfilled its purpose within the film, but I wouldn't mind skipping it on CD (though I would give it a listen sometime). The Betrayal, however, sounds very interesting, judged by those clips! -

Quiet year for Howard shore in general?A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I was watching "Creating The Lord of The Rings Symphony" DVD earlier and I noticed again the peculiar (and animated) style Shore uses when conducting.
Here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzsHrBVHqiY
He does seem to be particularly animated. This, together with his lack of baton, I'd like to ask all the musicians out there whether this type of conducting is more helpful, unhelpful or unimportant to the orchestra. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Why did they mix chorus/sopranos relatively low on the complete recordings issues of LotR trilogy? Especially sopranos. To me cues such as Breaking of the Fellowship were way better in its single disc version mix. Was this intentional or were they short on time and blah? -

I heard some music people make fun of this style, though I couldn't quite figure out if it was for practical reasons, or just because it seemed unusual to them.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I've heard that Russian conductor Valery Gergiev is so animated and passionate that he's given up using a baton because he keeps on flinging it into the orchestra / audience. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

With most of composer-conductors, i've noticed that the orchestra doesn't even watch them, they're rather concentrated on their sheet music and lead violinist / lead musicians.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
