I had been waiting for your RoTK Complete Recordings review ever since it was released. Bravo! beer

it took a while, but here it is smile

I've a great deal of admiration for someone who can condense down the complete recordings listening experience into a meaningful review. Thanks, Thomas!

I must say that I was indeed inspired enough to write a decent review of it. Luckily, once you know the material so much, it's easier to place it all in context, no matter the length of the entire thing.

But glad to read people like it, so thanks guys smile

Apparently the score for the new Twilight film by Shore finished recording yesterday. The film is released on June 30 so we should have the score album too around then! smile

C'mon, I think this project is quite suited to his style, and if it has the killer choir/orchestral material from LoTR, it'll be terrific!

I thought Desplat was doing it?

Edit: Duh, I'm thinking of Harry Potter. Desplat's already done a Twilight!

His output during the last 2-3 years has proven differently i am afraid. Desplat's score for the series on the other hand, and his output in general was very notable; we'll see, time will tell but if it's anything like Shore's latest trademarked drones for thrillers like EDGE OF DARKNESS for example, then meh.

C'mon Edge of Darkness just didn't give him anything to play with, it was a colorless film. It's way too early to write him off, his disappointing scores were all for mediocre to bad movies. Not saying Twilight could be any better, but at least this allows for a more colorful score. I, for one, am eagerly awaiting this project. After all, Shore has provided several of my alltime favorite scores and surely is an extremely capable composer.

This is not what we've been hearing about Corigliano's score, however.
The thing is, Shore did one of the most popular scores of modern times, but he is not always an engaging composer. I was reluctant to admit it for a while, but he really can be quite hit and miss from a pure music enjoyment perspective, despite all the fine scores to his credit.

Yeah, i just noticed that, you're probably right. The tag "[Soundtrack]
Various Artists (Artist) | Format: Audio CD " was the one that mislead me but you never know with retailers anyway smile

Amazon often makes that Various Artists mistake with score albums, it changes over time as the release date approaches. wink

OK... the one I mentioned above seems to be the song CD. But it does have a track by Howard Shore titled "Jacob's Theme".

The score has been listed separately now, due to be released on June 29 by E1 Music (which also released Desplat's score).

    Thanks for the link.

Strongly doubt that will apply to the actual music itself though wink

  3. You can listen to at least one track by Howard Shore:

A very nice piano track, curious to hear more samples and look forward to the score.
  4. It sounds like a fine quiet little piano piece. Doesn't make me more excited for the score, though. Does Bella look stoned on that website? And who tells her to open her mouth for EVERY photo?

Call me strange but I kinda wish that Howard Shore had carried over Desplat's love theme, but that will happen when pigs fly really...

I heard a piano theme that's available on the original soundtrack release (not score) that's already out and it was childishly bad and amateurish, both sound and composition, i am afraid.
