Yeah, I figured it'd be a trailer redux of a film cue. It's very close to 'War Begins', but they've put in more synths to make it sound bigger, I think.

There are no individuals in film music more disgusting than those who "write" this plagiarised trailer music. And all so the film company can get away without paying what for them would be a very modest royalty to the person who actually composed it.

Here's the really nasty bit James - any composer that sued a studio would be GUARANTEED to never be employed on a future release from that studio. Even though the case could be so easily made for intellectual theft.

Just read the Er-Hu (A Chinese instrument) was used in the score.

That's why it didn't sound BRIAN TYLER-ish to me.

Someone disagrees with you - and that someone is Brian Tyler!

Then it must be a different version than what's on the CD; a longer one with different chord processions at the beginning; i am curious, doesn't anyone else hear the difference? Is it possible i was So fooled by the hideous youtube quality of the first trailer that was linked above into hearing stufF? I hear dead chords?

    ^ Ohhh! Gotcha.

Wouldn't George Fenton's The Crucible be more appropriate? Or perhaps one of the last tracks of The Name of the Rose? Poor Ron Perlman....

You should. It´s an excellent movie...

Wikipedia says: "The Last Valley is a 1971 historical drama film directed by James Clavell. Set during the Thirty Years War, it stars Michael Caine as the leader of a band of mercenaries, and Omar Sharif as a teacher fleeing from the violence endemic to Germany during this period. They manage to find one valley, untouched by war, in which to live in peace for a time."

For a short time, before they manage to make a living hell out of it, one should add.

About the Star Trek trailer, it looks awesome (the way young Spock appears from the beam sequence just looks so authentic), yet the love scene is completely unnessecary. It didn't work in Star Trek 10 and it falls out of place here as well.

However visually it looks outstanding, I hope the dark rhythmic Giacchino makes room for a more magical melodic Giacchino.

Sex can sometimes say a lot about people. I doubt that would be the case in a J J Abrams films (because few American directors use sex well onscreen), but it's not a bad thing per se.

More does not automatically equal lucky. It could be you, Harry Knowles and Kim Il Jong. Not so lucky, I'd say.

On the other hand, I suppose it could be me, Myleene Klaas and all members of Girls Aloud (apart from the ugly one).

I don't know. It looks nothing like Star Trek. Aside from the familiar characters, this looks like a typical summer popcorn flick. Hopefully it will be one of the good ones that we'll all revisit, and not a dumb action disappointment. But I'm holding judgement on this one, though I admit I'm really not particularly impressed with much of the cast at this moment in time. I do Zachary Qunito as Spock though, and Simon Pegg as Scotty seems like a fairly logical choice. I'm really not sure about the casting for the rest, especially Kirk and Bones, but I'll admit my reservation with McCoy comes out of the fact that DeForest Kelley was by far my favorite Star Trek actor. It was his talent that made McCoy the most human character on the show, so in a sad-bastard fanboy sort of way, I'm oddly protective of my perception of who plays him.

I am worried about the overall approach though. It's often easy to look at something like Star Trek, forget what made it so significant, and then mock it because the whole set-up feels so quaint now. I don't think we'll see that out of this film, I'm still a little nervous that it'll go that way.

In the end, I'll be there opening night, and I'll keep an open mind as best I possibly can.

Regarding the music in the trailer: Parts of it is by Two Steps From Hell from the album Legend (as mentioned before). At least the part that sound like a Brian Tyler rip off.
