Indeed, BP. I've been watching his videos when he's posted them at FSM. Especially note his latest video from "Sword of Gideon". The theme music plays from 3:00-3:52 and 4:31-5:27, the latter rendition of the theme made even grander with that trumpet, a trick so typical of Delerue. This theme is one of my alltime favourite Delerue themes. (I have an mp3 of this unreleased theme music. If anyone's interested, send me a PM.)

I always assumed people weren't interested in my Delerue videos, based on the lack of responses over at FSM. I guess I was wrong, and therefore, I shall be posting more. Any requests?

Cool! Didn't know that you were a member here as well! Thanks for your clips. I can't think of anything specific for now, so do carry on with whatever you think appropriate. More rarities?

Never mind FSM and the egotists there.

Thanks! So much melody even when he's at his whimsical, bluesy/jazzy best!

Have to say that I listen to the clip you uploaded from Queenie a bunch of times daily smile

"Sword of Gideon" would have been my request, but that's too late now. wink There are countless other gems by Delerue, and I wouldn't even know where to start.

There's the theme I love! So french, and so catchy. BhelPuri, you will like this one too, I'm sure, after you have familiarized yourself with it. The theme plays from 0:18 to 2:40.

Indeed! That's the kind of Delerue I like. The romantic, nostalgic ones.

Thanks for all the recent clips, Maleficio! I was going to ask for clips from his Hollywood work but I see that you've already started just that. I'd love to hear the original versions of some of the films covered in the Varese 2cd set (Biloxi Blues, Rich and Famous, Little Sex...)

Gosh! The clip from Her Secret Life is exactly what I love. Melancholia! Can't wait to watch these films when I renew Netflix next time.

Cool, thanks. I actually do have the theme though. I request it for two reasons. 1.Because it's a unique and great theme that deserves some attention 2.I'm curious how it plays in the movie, which I've never seen.

I'm not sure if the comparison is valid, but the theme reminds me a bit of Jarre's "Building the barn". It has a unique sound, different from the normal Delerue sound, but after some listens it impossible not to love.

I just finish watching Mister Johnson and, unfortunately, there isn't much music in the film. I would estimate less than 15 minutes of music generally comprised of a few suspense cues, variations on the main theme, and snippets of original music (nothing special).

It's unfortunate because there were many scenes in the movie that could have benefited from music, there isn't even a main titles but rather silence as the opening credits progresses.

The cue on the 6CD set is actually three cues: the first cue I can't recall from any specific scene, followed by the end titles, then a march progression towards the end of the film.

Regardless of the amount music in the film, the main theme to Mister Johnson is one of Delerue's best and I play it regularly.

OK, you guys HAVE to hear the closing credits for PARIS BY NIGHT which is available on an obscure multi-region DVD. Also AMERICAN FRIENDS contains another outstanding and moving score by Delerue, once available on VHS. Also try to catch the TV movies STONE PILLOW (Lucille Ball's last film), Sophie Loren's AURORA -- another great one. And the two Netherland efforts are among his best, MIRA and ANGELA LOVE COMES QUIETLY.

Maloficio, I thank you for watching Mister Johnson. I assume you watched it because I requested it, which is very cool of you. punk I'm curious though, how do you find all these obscure movies? Have you bought them, or downloaded them from some p2p or website? I'd love to find obscure movies too, but don't know where to go.

About the Mister Johnson theme, I have the album called The unpublished film music, volume 1 where it's on. I think some of the arrangements on that album are of low quality, but the arrangement of the Mister Johnson theme is rather nice. I also have an mp3 of the theme from the original score. If that 6CD compilation contains something other than the theme, and if it's worth listening to, I will have to check it out.

What is the title of the 6 CD set?

I have a little from Paris by night, American friends, Stone pillow and Mira, but I'm not sure if the pieces I have contain the best material, as I've never watched any of the movies.

You haven't bought it? Any self respecting Delerue fan would have purchased it on day one, there is a wealth of material on that set. Google is your friend.

As to the location of the movies, it's mixture of scouring the internet via different methods and purchasing or using netflix.

Keep an eye out for Paris by night, American friends, Stone pillow .

And neither have I bought it yet. It's a bit pricey and I'll pick it up someday when it's more affordable for me. I have quite a few Delerue compilations for now (Suite Cinematografique, 30 Years of Delerue, Varese 2CD, Truffaut compilation, de Broca compilation...). Of course, it's a luxurious box set and is a must buy.

Which of those Delerue movies (that you've been seeing in recent times) would you recommend?

Well Delerue didn't have much luck in the assignments (at least in Hollywood) he was given, or chose, to score.

Some good films, many bad ones. The music, however, is top notch.

The movies I really enjoyed that I have seen are:

    The Josephine Baker Story
The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne
    Escape from Sobibor
    Salvador
    A Time to Live
    Amos
    Agnes of God
    Silkwood
    Man, Woman and Child
    Rich and Famous

These are all from the 80s onward.

The ending with the chorus is especially good.

To think this score, recorded at abbey roads studio, will probably never see a release.
