Just hoping he's not required to do any MV/RC crap.

I'm sure he'll have to integrate some electronics in there, but he's more than capable of doing a really good job. His last score for Mangold was 3:10 to Yuma, and I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to hear his theme for Logan.

    ^ Indeed.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. I'm not an insanely huge fan of Beltrami, but this is a pretty welcome assignment. Beltrami's got a few really good scores and he's a great theme writer, so yeah, can't wait for the themes, his action music doesn't make me overtly happy, but it's very decent.

  2. Can someone please sell Beltrami for me? Whenever I stumble upon his stuff, it´s just action or suspense, loud and noisy, chaotic and simply unlistenable. I´m looking for something that might be a great main theme, or some quiet, beautiful stuff. Any recommendations?

Also quite different from his usual action scoring are the following

    In the Electric Mist
    3:10 to Yuma
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

And of course his best scores to date, the epic:

    I, ROBOT
    HELLBOY
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

I'd add 'KNOWING', 'SOUL SURFER' and 'THE CROW: SALVATION' to the list

I don't think someone who's not into Beltrami will especially like those.....

  3. I'm not into him, but I loved Soul Surfer.

Soul Surfer is one of my all-time favorite scores. Since he is capable of writing something like that I will always give him a chance.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!
  4. Thanks for the suggestions, mates. I´ll get back to you.
  5. I really like his western-style music for the film Highway 395.

The main titles are one of my favourite Beltrami themes.

I didn't really care for Marco Beltrami until I, Robot. Once I heard it, I became a fan of his action stuff. I'm still wavering on his softer scores. Go hard, then get softer.

  6. I Robot is a perfect fit for the movie, it sounds amazing in the film, I enjoyed it all the more on disc after I saw the movie for the fifth time (on blu-ray)

It's an excellent action score, almost overbearingly so, but it's not a gateway score.....

it has good moments (especially the hints towards Kamen's music) and it fits the movie, but nothing really stands out in it, despite the wonderful way it's written. Give me this action music over most action music today

I thought it was very good and yes, I'll take this over a lot of action music today.

Absolutely adore it. With GIacchino's m:I:III I think they make for the two best modern action scores.

I love Beltrami; I have ever since I heard MIMIC way back in the 90s. I don't generally like horror scores, but here was a guy who -- like Chris Young -- could compose 'delicious darkness', i.e. horror music with a more melodic, romantic vibe. Same goes for most of his horror stuff. But he's got so much else too outside that genre; he's easily one of my favourites of that generation, and I was happy when I got to meet and chat with him a couple of weeks ago:

"A man in an iron lung who wishes to lose his virginity contacts a professional sex surrogate with the help of his therapist and priest."

Not the usual Beltrami fare! It sort of harkens back to the "lighter" scoring jobs he had when he was first starting out perhaps?
