Considering he wrote I,Robot in two weeks as well is incredibly impressive.

What? in two weeks? are you sure about this? Oh my God! i can't believe this. Within a two weeks, a composer could write complete score for a movie, its simply incredible and amazing. I really like this score.

Didn't James Newton Howard write King Kong in 2 weeks also? Hans Zimmer wrote L**n K**g in 3 weeks and James Horner wrote Troy in a similarly short period too.

Horner wrote KRULL in an incredibly short time and I'm sure he said somewhere that it affected his health!?

Yes, he did, and it's showcased by the fact that the score has...

    11 credited orchestrators?

JNH had six weeks for King Kong and Horner had 13 days for Troy.

I agree but as a critic, he should give some credit to composers, especially for their hard works and sincere attempts. Is it not?

Well, the attempts aren't sincere always wink

Writing scores in pre-software days is far more impressive. I believe Horner had seven weeks while suffering illness to write and record the near two hours of music for KRULL.

I also believe John Barry only had about two weeks to do the Bond film The Man With The Golden Gun, not bad for someone not noted for his fast writing.

I feel King Kong is at least on par with I,Robot, though it's hard to compare them as they're very different scores. But admittedly Beltrami did Robot in a much shorter span of time!

They absolutely do. I know we bang on about Krull a bit 'round these 'ere parts, but it IS an excellent classic score.

Not quite that. I've heard that indeed he had 6 weeks, but he had to score most of it during last two weeks, because the film called for more music.

  3. Not to mention that by that time, Horner was the youngest person to ever have conducted the LSO (he still is, if I'm not mistaken) and after the recording, the orchestra applauded him.

Totally unbelievable one. Amazing to see a composer like Horner, who wrote cues for a movie within 13 days. Hats off to him!

After that comment Pawel, about Horner being the LSO's youngest conductor I had to look it up, I was going to use it for a TRUE / FALSE but I just couldn't find who was the youngest ever conductor of the LSO.

However, Sir John Barbirolli conducted the LSO for the first time in 1927 aged 28 so the thing about Horner isn't true.

Anyone here remember seeing the original 1973 version? Had an excellently spooky score by Billy Goldenberg.....now HERE is a composer of no small talent who is seriously under-represented on CD.

Well, James was replacing a nearly complete score by Howard Shore on "King Kong", and J.N.H. didn't write it all by himself. Some old sources suggested ontop of doing songs, Elton John was originally scoring TLK too, and Zimmer came in, he was told to "go nuts". Horner was replacing a score by Gabriel Yared for "Troy"; Conrad Pope wrote a good bit of the replacement score.
