Iron Man nominated for a Grammy?!
I haven't heard "There Will Be Blood", but IMO the award must go to Wall-E. -

What kind of people selected these? If anything, those 5 are amongst the worst of 2008 (well Wall-E maybe not in a worst list, but definitely overrated and not deserving to be in a best list).
Ahhh, awards, always sooooo funny.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Yes, but considering the amount of good (even great) music we´ve had this year it should be easier to nominate better works. I mean, The Dark Knight? Iron Man? Indiana Jones 4? Pffff....Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

That's a pretty terrible list. I agree with fraz -- There Will Be Blood and Wall-E are the only deserving ones of the lot.
Demetris, you forgot to mention that Williams was also listed for best composition:
Best Instrumental Composition
(A Composer's Award for an original composition (not an adaptation) first released during the Eligibility Year. Singles or Tracks only.)
* The Adventures Of Mutt (From Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull)
John Williams, composer (John Williams)
Track from: Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull — Soundtrack
[Concord Records]
* Alegria
Chick Corea, composer (Chick Corea & Gary Burton)
Track from: The New Crystal Silence
[Concord Records]
* Claire's Closet
Russell Ferrante, composer (Yellowjackets Featuring Mike Stern)
Track from: Lifecycle
[Heads Up International]
* Danzón De Etiqueta
Dave Grusin, composer (Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin)
Track from: Amparo
[Decca]
* Hit The Ground Running
Gordon Goodwin, composer (Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band)
Track from: Act Your Age
[Immergent]
If they just had to pick a piece from that score, why that one??? -

I can hardly think of anything that I'd consider Grammy/Oscar worthy that's come out this year. It's been really mediocre up until the past couple of weeks where some pretty decent releases have arrived. -

I think "The Adventures of Mutt" is an outstanding stand alone piece of music which is what the Grammys care about the most... not so much how it worked in the film. Which, still doesn't excuse the nomination for Iron Man. Yikes!

I'm with you on this one. Another weak year. Yes, there have been a few highlights but nothing that really defines the year 2008. There have been a few however that has really impressed but how memorable and lasting will they be in five years or so. There are three that come to mind almost immediately... WALL-E, Burn After Reading and Asterix Aux Jeux Olympiques. Throw the rest up in the air and see where they land.

I used to listen to Wall-E quite a lot when it was released, but it ws destined to became another one of those 'flavour of the month' scores - it hasn't stuck with me. It's good, but... I dunno, it's just not as powerful as I'd hoped for? (Giacchino is The Man when it comes to Pixar scores!)
I'm surprised that The Dark Knight has stuck with me though. I was sure that was going to be another FTM score!? -
- CommentTimeDec 6th 2008
Agree. Wall-e lacks the vibrant kick and energy the Powell scores have, especially BOLT. Dark Knight is the most major kick-ass, brainless blockbuster entertainment this year.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -
- CommentTimeDec 6th 2008
I think Wall-E is a better score than Bolt. Perhaps more original, more subtle. But Bolt is far more enjoyable to my ears, I'd choose it over Wall-E any day.
...I want the complete Bolt score!!! -
- CommentTimeDec 6th 2008
More original, dunno. How is it any different than anything else he has done before? More subtle it is. Does this alone make it a better score though? Dunno; of course depends on what you exactly define as a "better score" (and i am not talking as heard in the movie vs cd BS here).Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
