NP: "Music and Cinema: Michel Legrand" - Michel Legrand

I got the Yentl bug the other day and I hunted out this CD that features suites from 4 Legrand titles, including a 14-minute suite from Yentl.

The suites are for harp and orchestra and feature music from Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, Summer of '42, Yentl and The Go-Between.

I'm enjoying the Yentl suite but I've really taken to the music from The Go-Between - a score I have not come across before.

That doesn't surprise me at all Alan, I've been a fan of Legrand's music for The Go-Between for as long as I can remember, just such a catchy piano theme which is put through variations on the theme.

Unbelievably an original soundtrack has NEVER been released in any form. slant

Verso la Gioia - Marco Frisina compilation album: one of the best compilation albums! Very melodic and emotional, passionate music, just the way I like it!

Beowulf - Silvestri: Loud and touching music, great!

Those who complain about the lack of good scores that came out last year need to remove their earplugs. I, for one, am very pleased with 2008's score output.

And what the reprise in the climax ??? Great!

It's interesting listen this score after we have a masterclass with powell in ubeda about the ideas he was considerating for this score.

    NP: The 13 Warrior (Goldsmith)

    "Exiled" is highly addictive.

The whole score doesn't have the energy in the action tracks than other Goldsmith scores, but the sense of epic and the main theme are gorgeous.

Indeed. At that time I didn´t fully understand what he was talking about, what did all those weird samples he played in his laptop mean and why did he had a smile in his face for all the masterclass. Once I listened "Horton Hears a Who" for the first time I fully understood. Simply brilliant.
