NP: The Perfect Storm (James Horner)

Don't know why I don't listen to this one more often. The way he keeps it all melodic is what most composers can't even create in a minute. Good stuff Mr Horner

Great stuff, Mr. Horner! Truly one of my favourites. Yes, he uses a lot of motifs and familiar techniques he's used many a time before, but that's Horner, that's what he does. And I think with The Perfect Storm, he uses them in all the right ways in all the right places. It should be called The Perfect Score! (IMO.)

I wasn't so keen on The Perfect Storm at first, but it's grown on me over the years. The album is so dauntingly long I don't listen to it very often (there are only so many times you have the prospect of 80 uninterrupted minutes to listen to a CD, and sadly there are an awful lot of 80-minute CDs, so most of them go unplayed for years on end).

Only The Devil's Backbone, I will get around to hearing more, I like the little I've heard of Navarrete so far.

You should definitely listen to Fireflies in the Garden, then. Sadly overlooked, I believe, but a beautiful and ethereal score by piano and cello. Pan is his masterpiece, but this score shows that it wasn't just a lucky shot. I believe he's one of the most promising composers at the moment.

    King Arthur - Hans Zimmer

I sometimes wonder if Zimmer watches the wrong film while he's writing the music, such is the almost laughable inappropriateness of it. But no matter how amateurish the application of music to film, it certainly makes for an enjoyable orchestral pop album. Very enjoyable.
  1. NP: Tracks 1 & 2 from Watchmen - Tyler Bates

I really like these two cues - and from all accounts I need not progress past these.

Great to be able to download these tracks individually.

NP : ALIEN - Jerry Goldsmith

Just like Planet of The Apes and other scores of that ilk I have to be in the mood for this particular score but when I am in that right mood like now I love it!

Tha main theme is so fu_king addictive!!!! Pure Testosterone!

The whole score is a little bit boring, thought. But it has his moments, specially with the electric guitars!

Anyway, this is one of my last remaining Holy Grail scores that I would love to see get the expanded treatment, if only for the full 'Rescuing Sarah' cue.

I have never heard the whole thing. I always thought it was too much over the top all the way to apreciate a 100 minutes realease (even a 70 minutes realease).

I don't want to be missunderstood, I think it's great.
