I'm heading off to see Harry Potter in a few minutes. Not a huge fan of the franchise myself but it's my sister who is nagging me to take her. Should be a good romp.

  1. Was in the gruesome movies today

    SAW 4

what started amazing, was good enough in number 2 and decent in number 3 is becoming tiresome in 4. The same ordeal of gruesome deaths, is also now becoming the same ordeal in the tests. Basically it is actually the same twist as the second and therefore wasn't that thrilling. At least we know who's gonna star in number 5 tongue

    5 out of 10

    Eden Lake

Now this was a pleasant surprise. And for once it isn't a serial killer but something else. Either way, there's some gruesome shit going on here, and the end is actually very good. It sort of completes the movie. Ow man, not for the faint of heart

I think so. That would make for a great headline. It's to the point and pretty much sums up what a crappy movie it was.

I'm back and I wasn't impressed by any means. Azkaban is still the best but there are so many of the films now that I can't be fucking arsed to rank them in order of quality. And couldn't - they all just blur into one.

And yeah, the score is bloody boring.

A very unpleasant film. If you love gratuitous torture scenes this one is for you.

I wouldn´t place it in the totrture porn category (Saw, etc) though. There´s something more real, more horrific in Eden Lake.

Over the last three nights, we rewatched the Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy. As much fun as it was, I´m almost afraid to write about it, because I´m sure that if I do that, some troll out there will tell me how boring and unimaginative, effects-dominated bullshit it all is, not to forget that Alan Silvestri´s score would have been vastly superior, but since I did that already now, can you - you know who you are - leave it alone just once and accept that there are people out there who are able to enjoy an entertaining movie for what it is? Because that is a FACT, too.

    Thank you.

I can't believe you watched those boring and unimaginative, effects-dominated bullshit films. Also, let's not forget that Alan Silvestri´s score would have been vastly superior.

First of all, get a sense of humor, will ya...

In all actuality, I very much enjoyed the first film. A refreshing spin on the genre. As for the score I can't say if Silvestri's would have been better or not because we have no score from Silvestri to compare. However, in saying that, Zimmer scores to At World's End is my favorite from the series and made my top ten of 2007. I wish the other two scores were as good because, IMHO, the first is one of the most inappropriate film scores I've ever heard.

I found there was a distinct inverse relationship between the quality of the movie and quality of the film in the POTC series. I really enjoyed the first film, but the score is absolutely dire; on the other hand, I really enjoyed the third score, but the film was a huge disappointment.

The Happening - an odd film. Quite good in places, ridiculous in others. At least it has the virtue of being short.

Lethal Weapon - I haven't watched this in YEARS! Not as good as I remembered, but Mel Gibson made an extremely watchable action hero back in the 80s and the film is very enjoyable thanks to him.

Anna and the King - a flawed film, but an enjoyable one. The last time I saw it (in the cinema), I remember thinking (and typing on messageboards) that George Fenton was going to be the next A-list film music star. Shows what I know! But it's a sumptuous, beautiful score.

    Beowulf

It had its moments. I would have loved to experience this IMAX.
I saw it on Blu-ray but know it in no way compared.

    Absence of Malice

Just started it but have to go perform.
I'm a major Paul Newman fan, and love Sally Field.
Looking forward to getting into it and hear Grusin's score. Great main titles...

Was going to watch it earlier this year, but later i realized it's yet another torture porn; glad i didn't watch it eventually.

The Happening was incredibly stupid. Worst Shyamalan until now.

Lethal Weapon: the entire franchise remains my favorite action / comedy buddy movies of all time. The chemistry between Gibson and Glover is fantastic. Later on, Joe Pesci, Rene Russo and Chris Rock joined the gang and it all became even more hilarious. But I don't think they should make a LW5, which supposedly is in the works. slant

    Ditto the Lethal Weapons
Number 5 is not in the works. Donner was kept off so Mel refused. A good move for such a long relationship. Shane Black was supposed to direct the new, which would have been nice. However, they are getting up there. But if Ford can do an Indy 4 and 5... I don't know.
