For any of the Pirates films, but personally I'm using it for the unreleased suites. Enjoy. smile

Anthony, any way you could make your covers in a higher resolution? The size you're using now is about half the size I usually view my album art at...

    Looks really awesome though! smile

I just saw the Revenge of the Sith one....woah! Sweet!!
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

Thanks for doing that Erik. I did a remix version of the compilation. It is better now. I know I asked you before but which programs do you use to do your covers?

    Photoshop.

400X400 is usually more than enough by me, but ok, I'll try and do the most kick-ass covers in higher res too! wink

Very, very nice Dom! I assume you've properly printed them too, or was that just some very fancy image editing? smile And is there anywhere they are hosted in glorious high resolution? confused

Thanks for your nice words. Yes I have all of them printed out but the preview images I uploaded are made with Imandix Cover.

I once hosted them a few years ago but they were used by some "criminal" people to sell bootlegs on ebay. As I don't want to be connected to such people I had to close the site. So the covers are no longer available for download.

Dom, those are some awesome covers. It's too bad you had to take down your site.

Here's my take on what I thought was one of the worst covers this year. Still not stellar, but I like it better than the official cover.

    Elizabeth: The Golden Age
  1. Using something like Photoshop, how do you all put these covers together?

Do you use (hi-res) publicity photos as the basis of the images? And what about your text? Homemade to resemble the official artwork or do you use the official artwork text and layer in onto you artwork?

Yeah, I pretty much use either high-res poster art or high-res publicity photos and cut out the official title font.

For example, I made the Elizabeth cover with this image and did a lot of exposure, color editing, and increased the background blur to it to make the image pop more. Then I took the official poster and cut out the title "Elizabeth" and messed around with the title's color to make it fit in with the photo. Then I found a font that went along with the "Elizabeth" type to complete the entire title.

A lot of times I'll have to clone something out of the image to make it work as a cover. For example, on the Lair cover, I cloned out a few additional dragons because they would have been halfway cut off and would have made the composition look awkward.

That's about it for what I do.

I use Photoshop, movie press kits (including pictures, textless poster etc.) and my huge font library for the creation my covers. I also create booklets for certain score featuring all music credits, session photos, interviews and what comes to my mind during the time I design them.

I do the same as Dom and David. It's usually easiest to find high-res versions of poster, promotional photos etc. on the net and start with them. Then it's usually the task of resizing, re-colouring (I LOVE colour!), and removing anything that we don't want there (such as taglines, credits etc.). After that I have to turn to my so-big-that-I-don't-even-know-what-I've-got font library (after usually having to wait 5 minutes for my computer to load the damn thing!) and finding something that either matches the movie font, or at least goes with it.

Sometimes I also have to find copies of the movie logo (e.g. posters have it in an inconvenient place) and resize and re-arrange that.

    smile
  2. Thanks guys for the replies.

Interesting to get an idea of how it's done - I may take a shot at it myself!

I love this topic so I thought I'd resurrect it by posting some of my own that I recently did.

I thought the cover for The Tudors was in slightly bad taste, so I did a new one:

And here's one for Jeff Danna's "Chicago 10", which I have from an agency promo I got on eBay.

Assassin's Creed - As men with big swords are always a hit.
