As a music student and aspiring composer, I was wondering if anyone here knows of any full film score sheet music downloads (most likely public domain, if there are any, and in a PDF format). It doesn't matter from which era the score was composed; anything available would be nice. I'm talking about an entire orchestral conductor's score, though if only a piano score is available, I suppose that's have to do.
  1. I'm not sure that this is what you are looking for but if you go to this page on a Marco Beltrami site and click on the various scores there are some PDF files associated with specific cues from these scores.

To me they seem to be along the lines you're looking for?

There was someone who uploaded dozens of broadway scores (piano reductions) on a site somewhere. I don't have the link at this moment but will find it later. Among the more film music related titles there were scores for the stage adaptations of Alan Menken's Little Mermaid and Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. These are all authentic and very accurate reductions obtained by the uploader from the orchestra musicians themselves.

The Marco Beltrami cues Alan posted a link to are excellent studies for one particularly interested in film music. They include many textbook cases of how to save time in terms of notation technique, and how to take short cuts when time is of the essence (think of how little time Beltrami had to write I:Robot for example!)

If you check out the trading board at jwfan.com, you won't believe the rarities those boys have. Among the most popular titles are Williams' original handwritten sketches for Jurrassic Park and Schindler's List, and Bernard Herrmann's Psycho.

Also, if you have the money for it a study of John Williams' published "Signature Edition" scores make an excellent study. I have the "Raider's March" and "Star Wars suite" publications as well as several concert works. Also available on the "Boosey and Hawkes" label is Leonard Bernstein's extensive suite from "On The Waterfront", which is a fantastic work and perhaps the best concert piece written for film?

I once made a piano reduction constructed by ear of John Williams' "Epilogue" from War of the Worlds. The harmonic textures in this piece are spectacular... I'll upload it if there is interest.

Oh yes, please! I love this much underrated Williams score. (And I play the piano as well, so there you go.)
