I could write a better piece of music.
I wouldn't say that unless you have some back-up.

Ah, but can you get down up in over it?“The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.” ~ Lynn Lavner -

How hard could it be to beat Symphonette 2?

You made sense of what I wrote?
Could...could you explain it to me?

What's the difference between a symphonette and a symphony? -

I'm not completely happy about the final piece, but I tried to create something adventerous. I imagined something soaring, maybe flying (no, not Superman):

Interesting. I think that you can add more details to the orchestra, particularly to the chord progressions of the organ. You are using the organ more like a pedal than for accompaniment. Maybe that is what you want. But after 2 minutes I need to hear something different or contrasting. Is a matter of taste of course. -

Speaking of organs - I will get married (guess no one knew about that, right) this summer and am working on a piece for the procession at the beginning of the church wedding ceremony (yep, composing again as well - three years since I last finished an original composition). Quite a challenge actually, since I have never written for organ before... but it does feel great to get back into composing again.
I have spent many nights pondering this and worrying that this is too much of a challenge, but I feel more confident now, finally having constructed a theme with harmonization that I am happy with... Thing is that I am also picturing an orchestra of two trumpets, two horns and strings joining the organ in this piece and it is quite a lot to hold together. But at least it is getting somewhere now - only a few weeks ago I thought to myself that I will never get it together into something worth hearing. (And I am perhaps not quite sure yet.)
Maybe I'll post an mp3 of it here when it is completed. Keep your fingers crossed on that I can pull this off...

Congratulations, Manwe!
And best of luck on the composition. Elfman composed a piece to Bridget Fonda for their wedding too, but noone knows what it sounds like, of course. Music can also be very private. But if you want to share it, we'd be delighted to hear! -

I tried my hand in atonal music. Using one variation of it where you arrange 12 notes how ever you want, without repeating them. I harmonized a little, so I suspect I cheated.
Anyway, only about 25 seconds long:

Inspired by a piece by Harry Sukman. I took the first four notes and orchestration of it, then made a piece out of it.The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

...and I did! Believe it or not, but the piece actually was finished in late May, and actually the worst part was what came thereafter - to assemble an orchestra to play the piece, in the very middle of the vacation season (July 2nd). But with only days to spare, I had managed to assemble an orchestra of ten strings, two horns and two trumpets to play with the church's organ player. And after a nerve-wrecking hour of rehearsal on the wedding day, the result was not bad at all. Actually, judging from what the wedding guests said later, it went quite well.
You'll never grow if you do not test the limits of your capabilities sometimes - and I really feel I did this time. I have however not composed a note since - but maybe the inspiration will return soon now. It is still a relief anyway, to think back on it and know that it actually worked out!
Just wanted to share this with you all. I am still around, you know.
