I haven't seen the film though I do know the scene, is it a cherry pie? ( y'know, metaphor time for virgin etc? )

That's the great thing about your own personal opinion: it's just that. So go ahead and not feel good about calling your work "beautiful" -- whatever makes you happy.

Why then do you ask for opinions here?

Actually, I never asked; re-read this thread and the closed one.

I did however suggest useful critisicsm was good. But telling me my opinion on my own music is wrong, is just the heigth of stupidity.

No danger of that! I've caught bits of it when it was shown on TV, this kind of film really isn't my thang.

Actually, it's one of the better gross out comedies. I remember me and my girlfriend at the time laughing our asses off in the theatre!

No, it's not the height of stupidity, Justin. If you have such a high opinion of yourself, you will NEVER learn. You treat the whole world as a bunch of idiots anyway, so why bother?

Useful criticism? Stop. Composing. At. All.

Obviously we need to see him score a scene or a film, then we can judge.

  5. I haven't quite stopped composing; try to do something everyday thought not all of it is, in my view, good enough to be bothered with and I have other things I needed to do, but I got these out:

    Untitled 3:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCmpfv3Q2Ds

Next up are two follow up cues to pieces I have done so if you don't appreciate my music, save yourself the time and skip these two:

    Action 1 SOFT:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8myWpBLam_s

    Green Solemn Pasters 2:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d7-9kjhsQU

  6. OK, first thing is that your samples suck. You can't change it, I know. Free samples and finances with music ARE

You may have a decent idea in Green solemn PASTURES (oh, that's about the spelling lol ), but the arrangement is rather incoherent, the xylophone is rather wrong there and I wonder if you don't get out of range with the instrument and it just doesn't fit there. The string writing is decent, but it's not much.

You don't compose well and I don't think you're capable of doing much better, sorry. Zimmer INDEED is better than you.

Untitled 3 isn't much fun, rather a bloated Japanese thing I can't really describe. Action 1 SOFT is incoherent.

  7. A number of samples, like the xylahphone, are real samples of instruments. The reson the xylaphone doesnt' sound right is -- because I can do it -- I messed with it. I stretched out the Attack a little, Modx was adjusted (for the muting sound), and so forth. It pretty much accomplished what I wanted, but was a little too ear piercing (which I just couldn't adjust properly).
I might have gone out of range with it (I never checked the range to begin with), don't know. But the great thing about using a computer program is you can go out of range and try to create something different. Goodness knows Goldsmith, Fiedel, and Mark Snow did, and for the record they are using as comparitive figures; not saying I am them in their abilities.

What is it about the arrangement you find incohenrent? And "Action 1 SOFT" as well. To to be fare with the GSP2 piece, I wasn't aiming for a big cohent piece with an overall structure, but rather exploring further into ideas, though I tried to give it some kind of structure so it's not just random noise.

The Japanese comments baffles me; what makes it Japanese?

    Japanese... I agree. LOL
  8. The scale, Justin. You inadvertently used a penthatonic (sp?) scale that is very Far Eastern and especially Japanese.

Justin, you lack any sense of rhythm, meter, etc. That is what makes your stuff "incoherent."

Of course, if he really knew his music theory, he would know that. wink
  9. Oh, and BTW. Goldsmith would NEVER go out of range with a real instrument, he played around with synths that sounded distinctly different than his orchestra. That was his choice.

Yeah... There is a definite distinction between unorganized sound and organized, and to me, Justin's sound is completely unorganized.

    Agreed.
  12. I hope we managed to give him TECHNICAL details why. And his interpretation of why he goes out of range is just LAME. No respectful composer would do that. Even ZIMMER is concerned with the instrumental range and is one of the sole explanations why he uses orchestrators!

Couldn't agree with this more. If you just stop responding to this then all Justin has left to entertain is himself. Time to move on folks...

  13. It's too much fun, hearing him going on about how grammar is important when he can't use it and saying other composers are shit, while himself he's much worse than them. Maybe showing him what's wrong with his music and attitude will change it. If not, then still we prove ourselves right.

But it hasn't worked in the past so why keep beating the dead horse. We have told him countless times to read a book, take some lessons, etc and it seems like he refuses to or just doesn't care based on the music he is presenting to us. Again, just leave it alone. Let's see how far Justin goes on his own because he obviously doesn't care what we have to say.
