A little head's-up for UK viewers who were fans of Planet Earth (is there anyone who wasn't?) - I'm sure this has the potential to be just as jaw-dropping!

Indeed! Oh, and I caught up with a repeat of the Darwin program yesterday, excellent, as everything involving David Attenborough is.

So, that means waiting until the DVD is available, or moving to a land where BBC is not taken away from the cable.

DVD is released in March (here). Presumably a Blu-Ray too. No sign of a soundtrack (don't even know who's scored it, though).

I enjoyed the first episode. It didn't have the number of "wow" moments as Planet Earth (by a long shot), but was a little more in-depth. Stunning photography, of course.

Musically, a great disappointment. I can't remember who wrote the score but it was obvious within a few moments that it wasn't George Fenton. It wasn't bad scoring, but the bar was raised rather high by Fenton and it falls a very long way short of it.

The score was written by Barnaby Taylor and Ben Salisbury, orchestrated and conducted by William Goodchild and performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

There were a few musical moments that did stick in the mind but, on the whole, it wasn't particularly memorable.

Against Fenton's brilliant score, it's very hard to shine.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Four tiger cubs are born to the endangered Sumatran Tiger species. love cat

Here's a link, including a cam recording of the second cub's birth.

Here, here, here and here are some additional photos as the young first explore the lair.

That's the cutest thing I've ever seen!

But fancy being born in Paignton...

    Cute pics!

Bristol zoo was once famous for it's White Tigers, I believe they bred them as well? I vaguely remember seeing them as a child.

Tonight's episode, about the African migration, was breathtaking. Is there a more awesome sight in nature than a cheetah running in full flow?

    Indeed!

I missed this tonight and I'll try and catch up when it's repeated. We did manage to get up close to a couple of cheetah's when we visited Chester Zoo last week. Beautiful creatures - though a shame to see them cooped up. The jaguars were also out and about and they were also breathtaking.

When I get a chance I'll upload some photos if anyone is interested.

    Cool Alan cool

I see there's a Red Panda there. I looked for them while hiking to Everest but they are notoriously shy and I didn't see a hint of one slant So darned cute though eh.

  5. They are very cute - and there were two sound asleep up that tree! I don't think we would have seen them otherwise.

Thank you! Your photos of the birds are great. Birds are not easy to photograph from a distance! And I'm pleased to see my favourite - the meerkat!

This makes me wonder if we shouldn't have a thread where we can share our own photographs.

Didn't have to worry about Tigers, it's Rhinos you have to worry about.
