specifically from the Super Bowl, now I love Jennifer Hudson's voice , now that being said, her version of the SSB from the SB was to my ears terrible, she yelled , had way too much voice inflection, Im I alone here ? So many think it was Great , Im sorry but OUCH!!

You're not alone, but you ARE in the minority, most people on here not being American, hence unfamiliar with or uninterested in either Super Bowls or Ms.Hudson. smile

That said, I'm sure it wasn't worse than this classic rendition.

    "that other board"biggrin

OK, had a listen, and I don't DISlike it: initially I thought she was gonna "soul it up", which I HATE (just dragging Every Single Note through three or four registers until nothing resembling a melody remains, interspersed with completely pointless and random "wuh-oooh-owowowow" moanings), but she seems to steer -more or less- away from it to render an emotionally powerful version.

The thing I completely find lacking is any sense of awe (or at least reverence) I feel a national anthem should command. This sounds -if you don't listen to the lyrics- like a song about personal pain or loss. Your average tragic love song, if you will.
So in that vein, I don't think the rendition fits the song. AT ALL.

I tell my wife this , if they could just sing the song, dont try to yell, dont try to "soul it up" as you say, have these different voice inflections where they dont belong, etc.
Just sing the song. If that makes any since.

I'm no fan of Whitney either but the chick has unbelievable talent and can belt out your national anthem like no other.

No fan here either (if only because, with the likes of Mariah Carey, Whitney's one of the prime examples of the souling-up I refered to earlier), but I have to say she was really restrained in that aspect in this rendition, and she sure as hell packs an emotional wallop here!

    Yuck.
That awfully nasal tone of voice (which seems -incomprehensibly- in fashion these days) coupled with the moaning croak at the beginning of the sentence and the "break" in the voice.
    slant

I'd never thought I'd say this, but I prefer Whitney.

An amalgam of most extreme opposites being one of America's most defining traits, I'd love to hear this version and this version side by side.
