Green Lantern is one of the lesser-known DC comic-book heroes out there, and now he's finally getting a movie. Today, Warner Brothers announced a release date for this hopeful franchise -- December 17, 2010 -- with director Martin Campbell at the helm. (More info about GL is available at Wikipedia.)

Judging by who Campbell's collaborated with before, who will be the lucky composer to take on the gig? I think it might be David Arnold or James Newton Howard. (Can't see someone like James Horner working on another sci-fi pic.)

    Green Lantern as a film?
Hmmmm... while I always enjoyed the comics (well, the old-skool Hal Jordan ones anyway), I always thought his powers were too random and "magical" to make for a truly interesting film.

I wonder how they'll tackle it?

I actually liked the fresh take on Green Lantern in the recent "Justice League: The New Frontier". There the story elegantly emphasized how the power of his ring was only limited by creativity and power of will, something all other takes on the character I've seen have failed in doing effectively.

I have a Green Lantern T-shirt ( fantastic quality and still going strong 10 years later ), well, not quite T-shirt as the sleeves come to half way down my forearm, it's green and black and has the lantern symbol on the chest. It used to look great when my arms etc were bulging with big muscles but now it looks more Simpsons 'comic book shop man' slant shame

    Back to getting physical methinks!?

If you were like Comic Book Shop Man, you would have noticed the colour is off, as you should know the Guardians from Oa have made a very clear shift in the green specrum following the Sinistro attack in Annual 16 from 1975!

I think Warners wants to use the Green Lantern movie as their answer to Marvel's Iron Man franchise. Hopefully, it'll be someone more talented than Ramin Djawadi or Tyler Bates.

  3. It's times like this I wish Michael Kamen or Basil Poledouris were still alive. But I would LOVE to see David Newman do it in his "Bill & Ted" mode.

I've checked Wiki and IMDB, and it says James Newton Howard is scoring it. I checked GSA, and it's not listed on his resume.

    Any truth to this?

Don't remember where I read it, but I think Elfman is a candidate for this one. Yes, another Elfman superhero score, love it or hate it.

I'd give this one to Christopher Drake! Just listen to his Wonder Woman score. That was one of last years very best scores! Give this guy a break!
