Hmmm....I never posted my list here. Perhaps I did over in the official John Williams thread.

But anyways, for laughs and giggles, here's my Top 10 right now (as far as albums are concerned, score-in-film list would look somewhat different):

    1. JURASSIC PARK
    2. Return of the Jedi
    3. Jane Eyre
    4. A.I. - Artificial Intelligence
    5. Indy 3
    6. Hook
    7. E.T.
    8. Close Encounters
    9. Angela's Ashes
    10. Far & Away

...or something. Outside the top 3, most of these titles are in flux.
    I am extremely serious.

I've searched for "John Williams" in the threads.... and so I bump!
  1. Hmm, Schindler's List is no. 1 for sure for me. Then I would say Memoirs of a Geisha. I'd have to think of the rest. The top tier of his works is so good that it's difficult to pick favorites just like that!

My problem is that my favourite Williams piece "Summon the Heroes" is not film music :-)

That's not a problem! I don't like with love each and single Concert Works of John Williams, but Summon the Heroes and Olympic Spirit are among my favourites.

This reminded me that I just haven't heard enough of his works yet, so I went into Apple Music and got all non-compilation albums by his that I've never properly heard yet, to listen shortly:

    - Images
    - The Accidental Tourist
    - Midway
    - The Witches of Eastwick
    - Superman: The Movie
    - Sleepers
    - JFK
    - Seven Years in Tibet
    - American Journey
    - Family Plot

If you'd ask me right now what my top 10 would be:

    - Jurassic Park
    - Schindler's List
    - Artificial Intelligence
    - Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    - Raiders of the Lost Ark
    - The Lost World
    - War of the Worlds
    - Saving Private Ryan
    - War Horse
    - Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Still, a lot missing that I really wanna hear but is difficult to track down, like:

    - Dracula
    - Jane Eyre
    - Angela's Ashes
    - The Patriot
    - Black Sunday

This is the US discography of John Williams. International releases are shown only when they are the only version available. Browse till the end of the Albums page. ;-)

Be prepared if you want to tell me something is missing, I worked hard to make sure eveything is here. Yet, the Singles pages should probably be enhanced... that's the hardest part. ;-)

Ah, and you're counting only the original album programs, not the expanded rereleases. Got it.

Ok you are talking about my wikipedia discography.

That's the only way to do it. It's why I've come to the magical number of 142 original albums. :-)

But there are 39 Expanded reissues album too. It doesn't mean there are just 39 expanded scores available, because some where the first releases of previously unreleased score... so they count as "original" albums.

That was tricky, but I think I've made it. ;-)

142 that's the number of albums you have to own, at least, if you are a John Williams completist. That's the 142 we have to consider if one day a complete box will be commercialized... After that, there are bonuses, some essentials, like the expanded reissues, the collaborations... ;-)

Oh no, I'm talking about this list:

    http://www.goplanete.com/johnwilliams/m … albums.htm

Which I noticed is for example missing my edition of 1941, which was released by LaLaLand in 2011 smile. You listed 3 issues, but they all contain the original album program, whereas the 2011 release in an expanded one.

So if I understand correctly, there are 142 films which got somewhere down the line an album presentation in any shape or form?

The 1941 LLL expansion is here, listed in 2011. It's a discography, not a filmography ;-)

JW released 142 original albums as "main featured artist". Not all of them are soundtracks, on the first ones he plays the piano, he was a jazz pianist. Then you have all the albums he released with the Boston Pops and other ensembles.

If one day, they make a complete boxset of his Original Soundtracks, it could look like this:

    John Williams
    The Original Soundtracks Anthology (1960-1990)
    50 CD
    CD1-1960 Checkmate
    CD2-1962 Diamond Head

Right, but you do group the reissues of the same presentations. If a certain album presentation is released in 1986, 1997 and 2005, they are shown together in the timeline. That's what confused me wink. I now see that as soon as a record label adds to that presentation, it's considered a new release and put in the chronology of its year of release.

Correct. Altought an album is released 4 times... if you have one edition, you have "it", you don't need to purchase the 3 others. I don't count 4 albums, It's one album, with 3 reissues :-) But if the album got an expansion, well, it count as an expanded reissue album (and they have to ask John Williams for his approval, he's involved in each and every expanded sets, it's a new "artistical" project that need approval). :-)
  2. I once owned the Tsunami release of "How to Steal a Million" that was distributed legally under German law but was considered a bootleg under US law. I later replaced that CD with the Intrada release. Do you count such releases also?

My discography is not supposed to contains bootleg. What I wanted to do is an official thing, a discography that could be reproduced in a book, I don't encourage bootlegging! ;-)
  3. Tough choice... tempting to say his theme for The Time Tunnel as it was my earliest exposure to him.
