It was a pretty good week for me. I bought a few used CD's which are:

At the Movies - Alex North compilation (Label X)
The Man Who Wasn't There - Burwell
    Proof of Life - Elfman
Mr. Lucky and other Film & TV Greats - Mancini
    Galapagos - Isham
    Musketeer - Arnold
    The Mighty - T.Jones

    and I purchased these new:

The Four Musketeers (expanded) - Schifrin
Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 - Portman.

I gues this is a pretty diverse group of scores, none of which will be offered for re-sale.

Fine haul there! Master & Commander makes for an excellent album with the inclusion of non-film music pieces used in the film, and the score is a rather underrated gem from Gordon. (A composer who more than deserves the biggest of the Hollywood projects.)

    Recent purchases were-

    Miklos Rozsa - Diane
    Franz Waxman - Prince Valiant
    Varese 30th anniversary celebration set
    Adrian Johnston - Brideshead Revisited

Indian two scores release; Amar Mohile's Sarkar & Ram Sampath's Family - Ties of Blood

Oh dear! There's a lot of cacophony and loud chanting in the former. The latter is not bad but there's hardly any score content. Are you venturing into Bolly songs or did you think it was all score?

I bought this 2 disc, assuming the first cd was songs and the second score. So it seems I was wrongly informed.

Three exceptional albums from FSM. Rosza's DIANE theme is one of the great melodrama themes.

Just got another dose of Tyler's highlights:

    Timeline and Partition

For me, Timeline is THE example of what I want to hear from Tyler. I never tire of listening to this score.

    Recent arrivals:

    Mongol - Tuomas Kantelinen
A huge disappointment this one - and coming after the long wait for it's final release! I wish I'd stuck with the early sample cues from his website. Too much wailing and underscore, not enough dramatic material for me.

The Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor - Randy Edelman
I'm not as attached to the first two scores as some and so this third effort fits in quite nicely into the franchise. Edelman can't compete with the stature of Goldsmith and (to a lesser extent) Silvestri as composers but Edelman has composed a score that is not at all bad.

    Torchwood - Ben Foster
As I've said before I was surprised how good this was as a listening experience. Certainly there's a much more contemporary feel to this CD - there's a lot more music that's driven by a strong percussive rhythm, but this is balanced by some effective emotion.

Masters of The Universe - Bill Conti
This is my first experience with this score and it's a very enjoyable Saturday morning matinee type of a listening experience. Nothing too subtle about it. It's a great listen.

NP: "Eastern Promises" - Eastern Promises - Howard Shore

Not listened to them yet. But yes, the decision to get Diane was based on your comments about the same recently. smile

I see where you're coming from here, but i too found that with the time the negative impression it initially left to me shifted dramatically. It gained so much more essence with time and listens, it might do that for you too!
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Very cool, man! You're the only other Pino fan I've seen on this board.
La Partita/The Gamble is a good score but it's very anachronistic with a couple of cues on synth/pop mode. What's funny is that even the liner notes point it out rather mockingly rolleyes

I don't know about being a fan wink I'd call myself a fan of someone if I've listened to about everything he/she has written. In the case of Donaggio, I know around 60 of his 172 scores.

A shame about the synthpop, but I think it's a regular risk when buying a Donaggio score you haven't heard before.

After just one listen I'd say it's about a 3 1/2 star score. VERY calming stuff, the guitar, especially for Rose's Theme, is just wonderful. I'm disappointed by the very old-sounding synths (and that from a 1999 score) that accompany the piano tracks. Those tracks would have been wonderful with violins or just as piano solos. Some of the more backwoodsy cues are a little too backwoodsy, but on the whole it's a nice album with moments I quite like.
