Picked up The Best of Miami Vice by Jan Hammer, and North by Northwest by Herrmann this week. The NBNW was the Turner Classic Movies version.
---- Well, I wouldn't argue that it wasn't a no holds barred, adrenaline fueled thrill ride. But, there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork.
  1. Who released it? It's not the McNeely re-record?

Franco Piersanti - La Parola Amore Esiste
    L. Subramaniam - Salaam Bombay!
  3. Just ordered:

    - Jingle all the Way David Newman
    - Indiana Jones box John Williams punk
    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh
  4. Not long arrived:

Superman Returns (game score) - Colin O'Malley
    Mercenaries 2 - Chris Tilton
    Marvel Nemesis - Trevor Jones
Mountains of The Moon - Michael Small
    The Rebel - Christopher Wong
    Malone - David Newman
La Lengua De Las Mariposas (rejected) - Angel Illarramendi

Chris Tilton's score for the game Mercenaries 2: World In Flames has to be one of the best releases of 2008 - and of any game score. Definitely of the quality of Michael Giacchino.

    You think?
Hmmm, maybe I should give it another spin. I thought it was rather generic and below the first Mercenaries.

I don't mind a bit of generic if I find it this good. Greatly enjoyable from the first - and that makes it a great 2008 release!!

On my part, I need to take a listen again to my original Mercenaries CD to jog my memory.

There was a second hand event for LP's and cd's this morning. Got these cheapos (some replacing the digital stuff):

The Scarlet Letter - John Barry
The Last Valley - John Barry
The Lion in Winter - John Barry
Le Peuple Migrateur - Bruno Coulais
    Powaqqatsi - Philip Glass
    2046 - Raben & Umebayashi
    Johnny English - Edward Shearmur
The Sweet Hereafter - Mychael Danna
The Green Mile - Thomas Newman (finally!)

And these I bought some weeks ago, with my first paycheck:

La Terre Vue du Ciel - Armand Amar
My favourite of his. The last track is so beautiful. This edition includes a booklet with some pcitures of the now expanded series.

    Signs - James Newton Howard
A classic I never had on a real disc. Jut on time to let it sign by the man himself.

Secret Weapons over Normandy - Michael Giacchino
Fantastic score man. This guy writes some of the most nervous and aggressive music there is.

The Skeltering Sky - Ryuichi Sakamoto
Contains one of his best and most memorable main themes, a theme that sticks forever.

Betty Blue 37°2 Le Matin - Gabriel Yared
Bought because of the concert last month. Apparently, this is Harry Gregson-Williams favourite score. It contains also one of Yareds most famous themes, and some odd moments, including synth.

House of the Flying Daggers - Shigeru Umebayashi
Replacing the digitals. I really love this score and especially the love theme. Also signed by the mister himself, who was very honoured that at least someone started talking to him.

The Painted Veil - Alexandre Desplat
Obviously one of my favourites by this composer.

Oh, and Empire of the Sun too! Which surprised me very much. Fantastic score I have played a lot the past weeks. My favourite track though is the Chopin adaptation (Toy Planes, Home and Earth), which reminds me of something so much, anyone can help?

    How's this one, Joep?
The film, whose title attracted me greatly for reasons we need not go into here right now, is on my to-see list, and the trailer music was quite interesting...though of course I have no idea if that was actually from the film proper...

    Afrika - Wataru Hokoyama

I'm picking this up in the short time that it will likely be available. I've got to import it from Japan and it's quite pricey. I've heard samples of this though and it sounds incredible. Never the less, it will be kept hidden away until Christmas day. wink
