But fact is: I probably already have all the scores presented on that Gerhardt compilation, so why should I bother?
For the reasons Martijn described. Hearing different interpretations of a particular piece of music is pretty much what the classical world thrives on, so why not film music? Gerhardt's albums are so much more than just cheap cash-in compilation albums. To neglect them simply because you "already have the music" is an injustice to the creativity that went into these recordings!
Bingo. For instance, if you don't own the Gerhardt Star Wars album then you are missing out on what I consider to be the finest re-recording out there... the Close Encounters of the Third Kind suite.

It may not even be the best listening experience, but it just feels like what's "right" to me.
You've gone the polar opposite of Thor, and suffer from even more madness!
I wish Gerhardt recorded more Williams albums like Superman, Raiders, E.T. etc -

From what I've read he had a Bernstein and Alex North album prepared.

Amen bro(s)
I have lots of different interpretations of Holst The Planets, the point being that IMO film scores are the modern classical works and I find it an absolute joy that I can listen to re-workings of everything from Rozsa to Williams etc.BURN THE BUNNY! -

I guess someone here owns the Caine Mutiny soundtrack then and as I understand it cost a pretty penny.
