This maintitle comes directly from the DVD. It is nearly 50 years old so we can classify it as a golden score. I'll warn you in advance that I don't think this is an easy one.

If no one gets it I'll start giving some clues.
    listen to more classical music!
  1. I'm not sure how to play the piece, it doesn't seem to be work for me, but I'm probably the wrong person to get the right answer anyway.

    Plays fine here.

But I don't know it either. From a film happening in France probably?
    Kazoo
  2. It starts off sounding like it's going to be some sort of fantasy epic along the lines of King Kong and then it has the sort of continental feel that Bregt mentions.

And sounds as though it could be a film with a nautical theme?

    Am I warm at all?

The movie has locations in Ireland and London and there are underwater sequences. Fantasy is a part of it.

Not a bad guess Tim but a wrong one! What does everyone think of the theme. I thought it had some merit.

Sorry, I'm in school so I cannot listen to it. Perhaps it's a Nascimbene or Ortolani. I'll go with Mario.

    A-HAH!
It was Sophia Loren In Rome (1963), scored by John Barry!

Oh shoot. That's a Brit who wrote the soundtrack to a film starring an Italian. sad

I can't hear the clip again but Mario would definitely be my guess after Tom's comment.
