I'm not sure? I'm inclined to go with Thor on the 'horror' aspects but on the other hand there were a few intrigueing moments I'd like to hear more of.

Quite lengthy soundclips (over 25 min. worth of music to be heard) from Danny Elfman's score to Tim Burton's latest, DARK SHADOWS, are now up on WaterTower's official site.

    http://www.watertower-music.com/release … h=WTM39283

Interesting! Certainly not as colorful and comically cheesy as the marketing campaign for the film suggests, this is more old-fashioned horror. The 'uncut' annotations do seem to suggest not all score was used, or edited for the film.

Thank God 'cause the trailer seemed to head to a very odd direction for my tastes...

Danny Elfman's score to MIB3 arrives on the 29th of May on CD. Cover art up at Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.com/Men-Black-3-Danny … gy_m_img_c

Looking forward to what he came up with this time. I really enjoyed the themes in the past, but though the full scores are perfect for the films, I haven't really listened to them away from it. Maybe this one will be different, though I don't really think so. We'll see. A bit like the film itself; it can go either way.
  1. Even though I vaguely recall the score for the second film (a horrible sequel) being better generally than the first, it's still nowhere has good and half a dozen cues from the first film.

What with all the productions problems -- too many cooks in the kitchen -- clashing producers, clashing stars, an awful trailer, and general problems, I don't hold high hopes for this score. Those cooks may well have tugged him in every direction and preassure put upon him to deliver to save the film.

I'm speculating, but I'm betting no matter how much money this film pulls in, Smith and Jones won't work together again should they make a fourth installement, and Elfman won't come back, either (especially since they'll probably call in a different director to try and revamp things, who will want his own composer).

Just look how awful the cover at is. Geez.

The cover art sucks donkey ass, but I have high expectations for the music -- Elfman's FIRST trilogy!

I'll be interested to hear what you have to say about this Thor ( not that that will make it any different, I'll wait for the DVD ), like you I have no connection whatsoever to the old American TV series which, I believe was never shown in the UK.

To be honest it's hard to know what I really thought as I was at the Cast and Crew screening and there was so much positive energy towards the film in the cinema it was rather hard to be subjective. Extremely gratifying to see the hard work of the crew I was working with onscreen.

Although the commercial song compilation is getting the most attention from Disney's marketing department, Danny Elfman's score for FRANKENWEENIE will also get a regular CD release on september 25th. No tracklisting yet, but here's the cover.

It's especially the great Comic-Con trailer that's gotten me very excited for this project, it promises to be a LOT of fun.

I think you maybe mean profiled or something similar, not prolific (which means more like 'productive' or 'a great quantity').

But yeah...looking forward to it very much. With Elfman's involvement and the subject matter, I sense Bernard Herrmann riffs coming on, full throttle.

I do hope so! I am really looking forward to this. The CD artwork is very reminiscent of the Hitchcock/Herrmann era. And what Elfman (and Bartek) did with the Psycho remake gives me hope that, whatever Elfman does for this score, he's thrown his heart-and-soul into the project.

God, I wish I had have been more aware of film music when Herrmann was alive!

  5. Elfman said that the director asked him not to write a homage score, but there are some references here and there.

Thanks for the info. Personally, I think that's a shame. But I just want more Herrmann-esque music!!

  7. If there are very subtle references here and there (Elfman talks about a very dark scene, where he couldn't help himself, though I might misinterpret his work), then that's great. I can't wait, personally, I expect one of my personal favourites of the year.

  8. I'd love to see a scene of the "Psycho" sessions, playing the shower cue. That would be fun for sure.

Hmm. While I agree that paying homage to Herrmann shouldn't become a greater goal than giving the film the score it needs, you'd say the film would certainly benefit from a Herrmannesque score and I'd love to hear Elfman getting full freedom for such a thing. I'm now afraid it'll be a restrained work that would have more character if the director had allowed him to 'go all the way'. Either way, looking forward to this!

Well he is one composer who can certainly do both Herrmannesque and also something completely different if you ask him. He can do basically Anything in film and i am looking forward to it.
