Anyone is looking forward to Twilight Time's Blu Ray release to Titus with Isolated score?

    Thomas,

in your Public Emenies review I read

"Composer Elliot Goldenthal returns after his respected Heat and Miami Vice to team up once again with one of Hollywood's most beloved directors."

Did Goldenthal write any music for Miami Vice?
  2. No, he didn't...

Michael Mann used a track of his he wrote earlier for Heat ('Fate Scrapes'), which is why Miami Vice is listed in Goldenthal's filmography on IMDb. Maybe that's where the mix-up came from.

It's brilliant. The SPHERE and FINAL FANTASY references don't detract from anything either, IMO.

The samples I heard suggested an eay sketch or development of ideas for Final Fantasy's Toccata and Dreamscapes. With this part (which works well as a suite on its own) being my favorite of the score, I figured I'll love the symphony.

There are extensive liner notes that explain that the similarities are deliberate. The symphony is based on a 4- and 5- note motif that Goldenthal has been re-using since the late 70s in various works.

Goldenthal's equivalent to the "danger motif"?

Interesting. I'll have to scour through what I have of Goldenthal's 70s work to see if I find it.

  6. I think the 70s work is more private/concert stuff. In films, it's in anything from Sphere, In Dreams, FF, Alien 3... it's a particular harmonic progression that's instantly *him*.

No, that is the kind of reference that attracts me!

I haven't, thanks for sharing. I believe the same performance came to Norway (and Oslo) in the late 90s, although I wasn't aware of it at the time.

I was honored to do an interview with Elliot Goldenthal during the FMF in Krakow! It was nerve-wracking, but it was a very pleasant conversation!

That's great, Caliburn. How is he these days? When I interviewed him in Krakow some 5-6 years ago, he was still a bit slurred after his accident (and no doubt alcohol consumption).

I think I mentioned before, he was surprisingly good. Sometimes sentences came out a bit slow, but as I said, it was a pleasant conversation and definitely not the man from back then.
