Yay. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 is forthcoming.

I think this is the first franchise that Newman is doing...

First film was brilliant, loved it.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

It sounds like something he would have written back in the early 90s, like Scent of a Woman or even Less Than Zero from the 80s (which also starred Robert Downey Jr). Interesting.

Ooh, I like the sound of it. Looking forward to this one. I like the direction Newman has been taking lately - even parts of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel sound more like his earlier stuff.

    cool
  2. Yes, and Saving Mr. Banks sounded like a more contemporary take on Little Women. I'm hoping Newman gets back to utilizing a orchestra like he did with the latter score. It might happen next year with The Good Dinosaur.

Exactly. Inspired, well-worked and away from lazy, crappy electronics.

As I said above, it sounds like a throwback to much of his work from the early 90s, specifically scores like Men Don't Leave and Scent of a Woman. I especially liked the last track.

Theme is as strong and as memorable?

There are two piano pieces that pop up. The penultimate track is the best showing of one of them.

  7. It was already announced in another thread, but here it is again: Newman's doing Bond again!
  8. So apparently Newman co-wrote an album with Rick Cox and released it a couple of months ago, called 35 Whirlpools Below Sound. Here's a link to 5 tracks.

I like it. Very Salton Sea-like. "Venice Mule," O_O.

A preview of the upcoming soundtrack for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It's cool that he gets a chance to revisit this music.

Loved the first one. Sounds like Newman has developed that sound more in this one instead of simply rehashing. Looking forward!

    cool
  10. Has he ever scored a sequel before? I can't think of any. And this year he's got three?

Yeah, this is his first time doing a sequel at all. Good for him.
  12. Mychael Danna and Thomas Newman should engage in an Indian showdown one day...

Very much looking forward to giving this a listen. Loved the first one. It really is a perfect series of films for Newman's palette.

Now now! Lets not be premature.

This is totally bum news as far as I'm concerned though.

  14. Really hoping this is just a workload/scheduling issue (I know he spends a long time writing every score) and not a health issue. If it is a health issue I wish him a very speedy recovery.
