Looking forward to this! Most of all Traffic Quintet and Desplat of course.
Do we know the guest list of the WSA (and other concerts) by the way? -

By the way, for the Belgians here, there was a coupon in the Knack which you could buy the Badalamenti CD with for 7 euros at Standaard. Nice deal. -

First concert: Traffic Quintet and Alexandre Desplat: Devine Féminin
The concert was exceptional. It had the same vibe as Gabriel Yared's intimate chamber orchestra concert last year. Not very long, but focused on the big melodies of the older scores (and the opera?). The Psycho Suite, Basic Instinct, the short but strong suite from The Hours and also Birth were the ones that I was most familiar with. Camille Claudel makes your heart beat a bit faster. Beautiful!
Michael would have loved the quintet performing the Birth Waltz at the end.
I hope they release a cd of this.
And I met Thomas (aka fommes) afterwards for a quick chat. We'll be there tomorrow for the Shigeru concert! -

drats, Burwell would have been cool
But Lockington proves he might win young composer of the year award
and that's utterly cool

He got it for Jai Ho, not the score. Best Score and Best Composer both went to Desplat - http://www.worldsoundtrackacademy.com/n … mp;lang=enCarry my soul into the night, may the stars light my way. I glory in the sight, as darkness takes the day. -

Again, that guy is really a genous. His attention for details when you look at the orchestra playing (there's sooo much going on), his very passionate conducting (he almost started jumping when Un Héro Très Descret reached its finale), his way of explaining things and revealing interesting facts each time, ...
Wow!
More later (but Wow!)

Wow!
When I knew enough about orchestral writing to imagine the performers playing Desplat pieces, that was when I really was impressed with him. -
