I think that for action movie historians the 007 series are a fantastic case in point when it comes to noticing severe changes in filmmaking style during the years. The funny thing is while Casino Royale is great (I even kind of enjoyed Quantum of Solace, even if I see its shortcomings), this is when the Bond movies stopped to be trendsetters, but rather started applying trends. Maybe except Die Another Day, but that was probably even worse than Quantum.

I managed to see all the Bond movies in sequence when they were aired that way on TV here.

Spot on Pawel. The Bond films now follow where once they lead.

I still can't stand Craig as Bond ( I like him in other films though ), he looks too much like a binman or a roadworker.

    Here's Daniel Craig's THEME biggrin

I quite like Craig as Bond, nothwithstanding the fact he looks nothing like Fleming describes him in the books (which, BTW are very entertaining). Craig has put some of the brutality back in the character - something that's been sadly lacking since Timothy Dalton's short lived stint as Bond - and BTW I think Dalton was an excellent Bond, as well! Too bad he never got the chance to do more than the two he did.

Still, for me, Connery is the closest to the Bond of the novels and he's also still my favourite.

Looking very much forward to the new one (although I'm worried about the score).

Also, I must be one of the few persons on the face of this planet who thinks Casino Royale is much overrated and that Quantum of Solace is a lot better than it's been given credit for.
Luminous beings are we.. Not this crude matter.
  1. I like them both very much; because of their individual strengths, they play really well as a double feature.

I also think Craig is a perfect Bond for this kind of reboot.

  2. I just saw the trailer. I'm nto sure what to make of it. Maybe I don't know recent Bond history, but was that villain supposed to be somebody we knew? He looked like a retired metrosexual cafe shop owner.

BOOM, this exploded. BAM, that crashed into something. Bullets firing. Fucking annoying bland trailer music I've heard too often that builds to a chorus crescendo with quick scene flashes. Is there a Garage Band trailer maker? Must be.

As i said over at sb, This Looks and Feels Awesome! I am sure that if there's a man who can give Bond back his old charm, Sam Mendes (coupled with Thomas Newman) would do the trick!

Has Thomas Newman written a big action cue before?
  3. Here & there, yes -- depending on what your definition of "big action cue" is, since there's all kinds. There were two or three breif ones in "Wall-E", for example.

She's current, she's got a fine voice, why not? What sucks is that Newman will probably have nothing to do with the song.

Has anywhere actually confirmed it yet? The only rumours I've seen suggest she is singing it, but that's all I've seen so far. Likewise we're 6 weeks away from release and there hasn't been talk of anyone other than her, so I guess it is true?

And again, only rumours, I heard Newman was involved with the song.

    Who knows though.

  4. I don't mind her singing or style of song at all. As long as the song doesn't -- and it's extremely unlikely -- go down the silly path that that WALL-E song by Thomas Newman took...

  5. Adele's officially confirmed. Golden Globe Awards just broke the news on Twitter.

I don't see what the problem is D, You've said before that Bond songs mean nothing to you so why should Adele ( a GOOD choice of Bond singer IMO ) bother you?

  6. personally I see Adele's voice working perfectly alongside a strong Bond tune, hopefully it's a Bond tune in the long great tradition of Bond tunes cool

    Adele has finally been confirmed.

But the best thing about this article:

    - Recorded with a 77 piece orchestra
    - Arranged by JAC Radford

You can also hear some of the song here.

Sounds good, I really like it! Old fashioned, a breath of fresh air after the Alicia Keys/Jack White misfire and Casino Royale's so-and-so song.
  7. Also released this weekend was a video blog about the sequence I worked on, although unfortunately I was unavailable to do the day this BTS was shot.

Great to see U-Stage at Pinewood, where I do a lot of work, showcased in this way. I bought the Bond 50 Blu ray set last week and I'm really looking forward to seeing the film when it's released.

You worked on this Bond film? shocked punk

I like the Bond song fragment. Classy and indeed a bit old-fashioned and a bit of Casino Royale's flair as well.
