What's your opinion on those internet dating website things like Plenty of Fish and eHarmony and such? People do say "get a life and meet people in real life" but having a relationship with someone you meet and become intellectually and emotionally close to can be fruitful regardless of medium.

  1. It's like having a pen pal in the old days. The question is, who would go out with their pen pal without knowing what it is to be around them? Chances are the days of communicating remotely - ie. the way you came close in the first place - are behind you when it becomes a relationship.

I know scores of people having found very satisfying and fullfilling relations through the interwebz.
It's just another form of dating, tailored to a different kind of people (from, say, twenty years ago).

As with every other kind of "agency", keep your eyes open, and your wallet close to your chest.
But as far as the principle of internet dating goes, well, why the hell not?

I went on a couple of internet dates in my youth. The first girl had more facial hair than Ernest Hemingway yet appeared to also be going bald; so that didn't fill me with confidence. But the second one was a stunner. A dead ringer for Penelope Cruz, in fact.

I understand the concept and I'm sure that there has been some success with a certain segment of the population. On the whole I don't agree with it. As it is being in a face to face relationship is one of the more difficult things in life we deal with.

I just established my first internet dating site profile ever!

Hmmm....I've always been VERY skeptical about these things, but I just thought "what the hell!". At this point, I'm willing to try anything.

I met my gf online. Been with her 3½ years now, and am more in love than ever.

There's alot of prejudice against online dating, but I think it's in many ways superior to real life dating. In real life there's all the superficial stuff getting in the way. We tend to judge very quickly based on small things, looks being extremely important. We tend to be shy and not showing our true selves, and this phony facade tends to disappear online.

With online dating people can really get to know each other seriously, and find out whether their personalities are compatible, before deciding whether to take it to the next level (meeting in real life).

Good luck with that, Thor. I had an internet dating profile once, but it never amounted to more than some back-and-forth writing with a few women. The gf I have today I met on a filesharing program, so entirely unrelated to online dating.

It's not that different to "offline" dating, if you're careful and honest (both parties), something good might come up eventually!
