  1. Some hot news about this amazing film music festival...

First of all, the ALIEN symphony is going to make it. DVD/CD edition with Varese. Along with the release, Diego Navarro, Fimucité director and conductor will be performing in Krakow Film Music Festival (FMF) next May a new version of the ALIEN symphony with expanded "ALIEN 3" score that has personally arranged by Elliot Goldenthal.

The festival itself will take place from July 9th to 14th and will be focused on Universal Pictures 100th. That's all what I could find at their facebook site. It seems they will be revealing more info during the following weeks.

I thought this festival was dead. Glad to see it continue. I can't make it this year, especially not if I'm going to book LA in August, but still....
    I am extremely serious.
  2. Do you mean Krakow or Tenerife?

I know that Krakow had some financial situation in the last few months and a possible cancellation was discused. Fortunatelly things are getting better. This year they will celebrate it from May 23rd to 27th with three different concerts: Wojciech Kilar's concert tribute, "Perfume" live performance with simultaneous screening of the movie and ALIEN symphony/Elliot Goldenthal's greatest hits conducted by Diego Navarro.

What I know about Fimucite of Tenerife is the Universal 100th because of their facebook site. There's a lot of expectation about it and seems the will have the support of the studio this year.

I was talking about TENERIFE. I hadn't heard anything about that since the ALIEN symphony thingie in....2007, was it?
    I am extremely serious.
  3. Hey Thor,

You can check about that in their website www.fimucite.com . ALIEN symphony was performed in 2009 along with Jerry Goldsmith 80th. Tenerife festival began in 2007.
I could attend the World Premiere of BSG Symphony with Bear MCreary and his band in 2010. Last year they had there Shigeru Umebayashi and Patrick Doyle along with concert tributes to John Barry and Bernard Herrmann.

You can also see excerpts from their amazing concerts here...

    Hope you will enjoy wink

Goldenthal has recently been in India to scout locations with his girlfriend Julie Taymour (for their upcoming musical film THE TRANSPOSED HEADS), but he may have returned to the USA by now. I doubt he'd take the trip to Krakow, but who knows? He came to Ghent. Twice.

For Kilar, the trip should be shorter. smile
    I am extremely serious.
  4. I know some stuff, but I can tell you only after Friday. Kilar is quite ill and even if he'd come, that would be a very short time.

Sorry to hear that. At least he's been working steadily over the years, and had a piano concerto out just last year. His last film score was, to my knowledge, WE OWN THE NIGHT from 2007.

  6. All I'll say is that Armin blew the news a bit early (the official announcement is on Friday), so I hope that the organizers won't get very angry. Out of pure respect to them, I won't say anything until that day. But it *is* quite exciting.

John Williams is cancelling the Hollywood Bowl and going to Krakow instead?

  7. I wish!

He is aware of the existence of the festival, from what I know. The festival is just plain *loved* by a former assistant of his. She's been here twice.

  8. OK I know we are going off topic here talking about Krakow Festival where we met Diego Navarro last year. And we (SST) are in close contact with the organizers of both festivals. SST will organize a hug gathering in Krakow this year. Unfortunately they told us the program would be announced last Tuesday, so we know the program already. Friday 9 am local time in Poland on RMF Classic it will be officially announced.

About Fimucité TENERIFE a group of SST members will be there too. We are in contact with Diego so we can do some extras and promoting that festival.
That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

The VI Tenerife International Film Music Festival, which will be held from July 7 to 14, renews its commitment with scores with a wide range of concerts and parallel activities

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Diego Navarro, will perform the best Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Thomas Newman and Alan Silvestri scores at the Closing Gala Concert.

The VI Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will be held from July 7 to 14, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and Arona City Councils, will become the venue of the official celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Universal Pictures Studios this year.

With its customary self-improvement spirit and its constant search for new and enhanced contents, this unavoidable appointment with film music has got the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by composer and FIMUCITÉ director Diego Navarro, to be chosen by the studios to perform live this unique celebration at the Closing Gala Concert on Saturday, July 14, at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”. In a musical evening that promises to shake like never before this Canary coliseum, the audience will enjoy a selection of legendary classic scores that have made the Universal Pictures so prestigious worldwide, including the works of acclaimed composers such as Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Thomas Newman or Alan Silvestri.

On Friday, July 13, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra will play another exclusive concert on the same stage, where the famous composer James Newton Howard’s music will be the main protagonist. This time, the Orchestra will be conducted by Diego Navarro and also by the renowned American conductor, orchestrator and composer Pete Anthony.

But, as the Festival has already proved through its six years history, there will be more surprises apart from the repertoire of the symphonic concerts. On July 7, FIMUCITÉ VI will offer at Auditorio Infanta Leonor in Los Cristianos a concert of the Spanish group Presuntos Implicados. This opening evening, the famous musicians from Murcia will play their latest work, “Banda Sonora”, in which they have expressed the essential feelings music gives to films through the Spanish version of a great number of very well-known themes. It is worth pointing out the Oscar Academy Award winner in 1959, “Manha De Carnaval”, the oldest theme in the album and origin of “bossa nova”.

On July 12, the Big Band de Canarias will play tribute to the legendary composer Henry Mancini at Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The genuine Canary band, leaded by the saxophonist Kike Perdomo and the guitarist Yul Ballesteros, will play the best works by the author of unforgettable scores such as “The Pink Panther”, “Peter Gunn” or “Hatari!”.

The parallel activities of the Festival, including screenings and publications, will mainly focus on the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Universal Studios.

    History

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival began in 2007 due to the fans growing interest to enjoy a live performance of the scores belonging to some of the most renowned films. Thanks to the excellent outcome of the five previous editions, in which the event has displayed all its ludic and educational potential before very varied audiences (many of which come to the Canary Islands from all over the World), FIMUCITÉ has grown to currently become one of the most selected, successful and celebrated international festivals of its genre.

The Festival also began in 2010 and 2011 to collaborate with prestigious international labels, like Varèse Sarabande, which has already made the Festival and Diego Navarro’s work known through the releasing of several CDs and DVDs. There has been also a very close collaboration with the Krakow Music Festival since last year, when Diego Navarro conducted the prestigious Ausko Orkiestra Kameralna in Poland and received an ovation from more than 4,000 people.

The impact of this event on the specialist press has also reached English-speaking media such as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter or Soundtrack.net, as well as French-speaking ones such as Soundtrack Collector or Underscores. All of them are covering the Festival due to its far-reaching impact on the specialist as well as the general public, which gives an idea of how the event has reached people’s feelings.

Dear God. What a great series of film music festivals we have in Europe!

FIMUCITÉ confirms Alberto Iglesias as guest of honor at its 6th edition

The attendance of Pedro Almodovar’s favorite composer will strengthen the repertoire of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra on July 13, which will perform some of the works that have consolidated the prolific relationship between the composer and the Spanish most international director

The VI Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will be held from July 7 to 14, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and Arona City Councils, will have in 2012 the prestigious composer Alberto Iglesias as a guest of honor, worldwide known by his relationship with the Spanish most international director, Pedro Almodóvar.

His attendance to the Spanish film music event par excellence, besides his prestige and his long professional career, is due to the two Spanish Film Music Critics Awards he has won at its 8th edition, organized by the prestigious website Scoremagacine. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra will perform an outstanding selection of the works that have consolidated the prolific relationship between the composer and the director at the first of the two FIMUCITÉ symphonic concerts, to be held on July 13 at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”.

Specifically, the Spanish Film Music Critics Awards Alberto Iglesias has won are: Best Spanish Composer Award (for his works for “La Piel que Habito”, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and “Le Moine”) and Best Spanish Score Award for “La Piel que Habito”. It is worth pointing out that John Williams has won the Best Foreign Composer Award and “War Horse”, directed by Steven Spielberg, the Best Foreign Score Award.

According to Miguel Ordóñez, editor of Scoremagacine, “the Almodóvar-Iglesias relationship has been consolidated, and in chronological order, along “Todo sobre mi madre”, “La mala educación”, “Hable con ella”, “Volver” and “La Piel que Habito”.

He has also pointed out that this is not the first time Iglesias has won a Spanish Film Music Critics Award. He has also won the Best Spanish Composer Award for “The Constant Gardener” in 2005 and the Best Spanish Score Award for “Los abrazos rotos” in 2009.

The Awards, organized by the website Scoremagacine, are formed by specialists who write for Dirigido Por, La Guía del Ocio, Catalunya Radio, TV3, El Cine de lo que yo te Diga, COPE, EsRadio, Imágenes de Actualidad, among others.
