Not a big fan, but a good name for the festival!

Maybe he'll show up this time, unlike Ghent last year where they played his music, but he wasn't there himself.
    I am extremely serious.
  1. What an amazing concert program!!!!!

Looking forward to see what are they going to do with Henry Mancini's tribute!

I hope the programme for the JNH concert is an indication for the concert in Ghent next October!

What's the Darfur score btw, never heard of it.

ow man, I would kill for a James Newton Howard line up like that in Ghent

I hope he at least gets the time to deliver a whopping program. Give me Signs and I'm already happy cool

I have been digging about this. Ghent program will be definitely much shorter than Tenerife. Just a few premieres like 'Snowhite and the Huntsman" or "Bourne Legacy" and probably a different suite from 'Hunger Games'.

Apparently Tenerife has the biggest JNH concert program and, for sure, a much better Symphony Orchestra.

the Ghent programma will indeed be shorter, I expect 3 or four suites
but do not underestimate our orchestra though, they are European subtop quality. The people who will be there that evening will hear it for themselves

It's a good orchestra, but I have to say that the Krakow orchestra blew the Belgian one out of the water when it came to the Goldenthal pieces.

  5. Yeah, the Krakow performance was somehow perfect when it came to the more dissonant part of his work. A friend even told me that he preferred Interview of the Vampire as performed on the concert to the original score.

Sinfonietta Cracovia is an excellent orchestra and did much better performance of "ALIEN 3" than the Belgian one last year. I think that the conductor makes the difference. Diego Navarro has surpised me very much the way he conducts. Stuff from composers like Goldenthal requires that kind of expressive conductors. Dirk Brossé is amazing but lacks of this kind of passion on stage. Definitely Diego Navarro is the next best think that happened to film music live performances. I cannot wait to see him conducting the Universal 100th concert with Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

personally, I heard nothing wrong concerning Alien 3, but perhaps it's all in the smallest details. Either way, it's good that there are so much grand orchestras around

I have seen him conduct that orchestra. The performance was less than Krakow, there was something missing. The emotion was not there within the orchestra. The final touch that brings shivers trough my spine was simply not there.

I do not think it was Diego's fault. Just the stubbornness of the orchestra. I love Diego, he is a genius as a conductor and a very good friend of SST.
  9. Probably it's a matter of tastes, Caliburn.

IMHO, Tenerife Symphony is much warmer during the performances and fits much better with Diego Navarro's passion on the stage. I have seen Navarro conducting different orchestras in Krakow, like Sinfonietta and Aukso. Every case we are talking about Top Performances, but technically speaking, Tenerife Symphony has offered the most accurate Film Music performances I ever heard. But, of course, it's a matter of tastes.

Then we agree to disagree ;-) We both had the seem feeling.

A small SST delegation will go again. The festival in general is very awesome. It is a good opportunity to talk with composers and other people within the field. And listen to good music of course. I have written a report in my blog for those who are interested.

    How was the festival Armin?

FIMUCITÉ VI has closed with the applause of more than 5,000 people

The Tenerife Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) closed its 6th edition, on Saturday, July 14, having received the applause of the more than 5,000 people who attended its week full of activities and concerts, held in the most important cultural venues in Santa Cruz and Arona, particularly the Night Closing Gala at Auditorio de Tenerife "Adán Martín", which made Tenerife become the unique authorized venue to celebrate the Universal Pictures centennial. The concert was completely sold out, being an unforgettable evening that has made the social networks seethe with expressions such as “astonishing” and “electrifying”, and where the audience has highlighted, above all, the magnificent performance of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST), conducted by composer and director of FIMUCITÉ, Diego Navarro.

Faithful to its commitment to quality, this year's Closing Gala had again the participation of soloists such as Esther Alfonso Da Costa, who amazed the audience with her vocal skills, performing the so well known piece “Fried Green Tomatoes”. The concert also recovered some of the most known soundtracks of the legendary American studios, including horror classics like “Dracula” or “Frankenstein”, as well as other more recent and popular ones like "Back to the Future" or "Conan the Barbarian".

If Diego Navarro conducted alone this great symphonic concert, the previous one, on Friday, July 13, was mainly under the baton of the conductor and orchestrator Pete Anthony, having reached an identical success. In this case, the honoree composer was the celebrated James Newton Howard, and in both concerts, FIMUCITÉ enhanced the use of footage of the films of the repertoire, synchronized with the music live.

The staunch admirers of the festival enjoyed also the rest of the staged concerts of this unavoidable appointment with film music, like those at Guimerá Theatre in Santa Cruz, also completely sold out, or the performance, in the opening session, of the famous Spanish band Presuntos Implicados. A place was reserved as well for those interested in the process of creation of a film score, who could converse with specialists such as Andy Hill, from Berklee School of Music, or Iván Vivas, among others, thanks to a special workshop, in collaboration with this private college of music (the number one in the world), on July 12 and 13. This workshop had almost one hundred students registered.

FIMUCITÉ has already announced the dates of its seventh edition: July 8 to 13, 2013.

I did. I really like it. It's the best directed video out of all the FIMUCITÉ DVDs from Varese.
I certainly enjoyed Alien and Aliens. Love watching Diego Navarro conducting.
Wish Varese Sarabande would release other segments from these concerts.
The performances may be flawed at times but it's great to watch film music being performed like this.

    Sorry by the delayed reply.

Was an amazing experience! I'm spiritually connected to Tenerife because of this festival. The island is a wonderful place, the people is very charming and what can I say about the festival I didn't commented before? Probably the best film music experience I ever had. This year those folks from FIMUCITÉ raised the bar.

Still haven't found any video in youtube from this year's edition. Apparently those guys are very protective with their stuff. But this time I found a link to one of the finest performances they did last year, during the Bernard Herrmann's centenary celebration.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL9-NdpMYuM

I also found some excerpts from the Biomechanical Symphony that someone uploaded to tease people to get the DVD

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo9lUPeAAJs

At the end of the Universal 100th Gala, FIMUCITÉ announced their next edition from July 8th to 13th.

Hope to meet you there next year!

So Fimucite 7 will be music from Alien movies (I assume same as Krakow) and Bond movies (same as the Bond-concert in Ghent?)

Didn't Tenerife already do an ALIEN concert a couple of years ago?

I think the poster says that it's from the CREATORS of those previous concerts. It seems only to be about Bond.
    I am extremely serious.
  14. What I understood from a few press notes released these days is that they are focusing in the James Bond saga but also in the 35th Anniversary of Varese Sarabande. There will be another Big Band concert, same way the did last year about Henry Mancini (amazing concert, by the way!) but this time as tribute to Elmer Bernstein.

Apparently, this is just and advance of few key points of the festival. They will announce big names very soon.
