Jean is shorter than Brutus but taller than Imhotep. Imhotep is taller than Jean, but shorter than Lord Scotland. Lord Scotland is twice the height of Jean and Brutus combined but only one-tenth of the height of Millsy. Millsy is at a constant height of x − y. If Jean stands exactly one nautical mile away from Lord Scotland, how tall is Imhotep? -

the beginning seems incompatible:

Imhotep is invisible. -
- CommentTimeJun 24th 2009 edited
Invisibility only has to to do with the breaking of light, not actual dimensions.
If Imhotep is both taller and shorter than a given constant, we can only assume that Imhotep is in a state of constant flux.
Chaos in fact.
In fact, I think a valid case can be made that Imhotep's true name may be Azathoth.
Interestingly Imhotep and Thoth (an integral part of Azathoth) both are Egyptian architect gods: Gods of creation, while Azathoth is the ultimate personification of madness and chaos.
Therefore being incorporeal, short and tall, creator and destroyer all in one, I think your riddle may well be the propehcy to lead us to the end of the world...or indeed of existence as we know it.
With 2012 rapidly approaching, is this coincidence?

I have a question for the seer of seers and the prognosticator of prognosticators.
Do you feel the recent upward revisions in Australia's economic growth forecasts are premature, or were recent declarations that the 'end of the world' was upon us overly-pessimistic?A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Hmmm... This one's a toughie. I say you should go for it and see what happens. And immediately duck for cover, afterwards. -

I need your wisdom and guidance William. I have two propositions: The first proposition states that the second proposition is false. The second proposition also states that the first proposition is false. Which one is false? They can't be both false and both true, surely? -

I'm pulling a William.
Since the first proposition was first, and the second followed upon the first, it is clear that the first proposition is true, since that proposition couldn't be ruled out by an other proposition. The second proposition clearly followed, with the first proposition knowing it would, so it already stated that the second proposition would be false, even though in itself it doesn't say so.Kazoo
