GOLDEN COMPASS was a real let down of a film. Considering how great the novel is, it's not a good reflection on the people at the highest level.
However I didn't have a problem with Kidman's performance. She seemed very much the character of Mrs Coulter.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I´ve read the novel after seeing the movie, and beside the heavy editing, there are no complaints from me. I thought every important aspect was somehow represented in the movie, the actors were fine and the score engaging. -

The spirit of the enterprise, the subtlety of the way themes are presented, the emphasis of the story... all different. They got distracted by the plot and the action, when the characters were what really mattered.
Such a shame.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Why the hell do actresses do something that make them emotionless from the chin up?On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Really?
I can't compare to Golden Compass because I haven't seen it but it says a lot about a film when I say that the best thing about it is a TAKE THAT song tagged on the end credits!

Completely agree, Jordi.
Very enjoyable storytelling, well translated to screen.
Excellent setting, good pacing and with a LOT of heart.
I enjoyed it greatly!

Nice fantasy film with all the good things Jordi has mentioned. I´d add the score, which works wonders in the film.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

The Eye (2008)
Not as crappy as I thought it would be for being an american remake of a much better asian film.
Anyway, is almost a shot by shot remake, with Beltrami doing what he can to save the day, and he does it good, using all his tricks for horror scores. 2.5 out of 5
PS Jessica Alba is a lucky girl to have those tasty lips, because she is probably one of the worst actresses of the decade.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

It was one of the worst actresses ever after watching "Fantastic Four 1&2". After "The Eye", I´ll leave it in the decade. But don´t worry, won´t be long until she returns to the former.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Thanks Alan. Could be in the science thread! Or at least the social sciences thread... where has that one gone?
Well, before I read the article my first question was, it is a fetish?? But the article answers clearly what the difference is. I have to say I laughed out loud about the last names, hehe, that's just funny. But reading along the whole thing is kind of sad of course, especially when you know what causes these relationships.
Interesting read. I had never heard of it. I had been reading about Asperger again last week, so the focus on objects instead of people makes sense indeed. -

Jumper
What a piece of crap! Silly, boring, predictable... The only thing that could have saved this mess were the action sequences, but even those are horrible. I´ve seen monkeys with more chemistry than Christensen and the girl. Oh, and Samuel L. Jackson´s haircut, somebody please explain me that.
As for Powell´s score, it´s almost unnoticeable. It´s Powell composing while he sleeps. Totally uninspired and booooring (not that the visuals helped him though).Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you
