Wow...I can't believe how much attention you guys paid to a movie that for most people will go down as a incomprehensible, chaotic, selfindulgent and overlong. I was bored after twenty minutes...the idea of actually noticing and matching themes to the film would be a chore rather than a pleasure. In fact, I'd exponentially increase my hourly rates simply to be tasked to do such a thing. Pawel, by my reckoning, should have earned the equivalent of $ 3298.12 for that post alone!

Does anyone here have watched "porky's"?

Even though I'm certainly the right age bracket to have been targeted in the early eighties with what was supposed to be titillating, semi soft core quasi porn (ooooh! a boob!) aimed predominantly at American males between 14 and 17, I've thankfully managed to stay away from any of the Porky movies.

I have a hunch these films, when viewed now, will seem even more sad and out of touch than they were twentyfive years ago.

lol That was my first watching and these things were quite obvious to me biggrin I'm just very analytical when I watch a movie and things just come to me.

We all watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special, "Voyage of The Damned", last night. I'm beginning to think that they've maybe over-stretched themselves and should really have taken a break now rather than at the end of the next series.

After a disappointing Series 3 climax, last night's Special was another big disappointment - and not very original. Heavy borrowings from The Poseidon Adventure.

Just watched it , and thought it was utterly charming, and FAR better than last year's Christmas Special.
Well acted, fast-moving and exciting plot. Sure there were echoes from The Poseidon Adventure, but I think it was limited to "Shelley Winters", really. There were some amusing hints of Star Wars and Tron as well, but it's all in fun!
And Kylie is SO cute. love

The music was excellent, and the new main theme is a killer! By the way, did you notice that when the Doctor introduced himself properly, just after the impact, we could hear the Face Of Boe theme again?

Funny you say that because Porky's is a Canadian film.

    Well, it's a US-Canadian co-production that's about teenagers from Florida...

However and as that may be, if I were a Canadian, I'd have disavowed knowledge of the whole thing altogether, not actually lay any claim to it... slant

Why wouldn't you be proud of it. I was a small little Canadian production that went on to be a huge success. Porky's is the highest-grossing Canadian film of all time in domestic box office. Sure, it's no American Graffiti but I would shrug it off because of the subject matter.

    I AM LEGEND

Do you can imagine this movie direced by a really talented filmaker? wow....a great main material here.

The movie kept my interest just because the dog and AMAZING Will Smith performance. Dude, Who could imagine that the Fresh PRince of Bel Air could be such a great actor????I really admire this guy, for his career ,his charism and his talent.

About the music...Again we can discuss about it. the music is used in a very appropiate, but it doesn't mean it could be better than it is. Newton Howard's score is in the same line with the director: unmemorable, uninspired, bland but effective.

Well when Fresh Prince of Bel Air(ed) on TV, I immediately noticed what a natural talent Will Smith is, I'm sure tommy_boy agrees, hell we watched it together. Just watch his emotional episodes and have your hankies at the ready...

Yep he carried the movie I am Legend very effectively, but I love the dog's performance too... Just amazing how they can make animals do the stuff they normally don't do, like the scene with just Smith and the dog in the lab (no spoilers here). Just watching him react to his master is priceless... In my book Sam deserves a nomination for 'best performance of a canine actor in a motion picture' award. biggrin

  2. Watched The Village last night on TV for the first time and, even though I knew what the "twist" was, I enjoyed it very much. Anne had suspicions as to what this twist was as the movie went on but enjoyed it also.

A criticism was that it seemed to end quite hurriedly.

Tonight I see that Sin City is on - and I might give this a go too.

Saw BULLITT last night for the second time. Several narrative flaws, but it's still a slick cimre thriller. Love the realism of it. McQueen is cool. Schifrin is cooler.

    Well, I think so.
It doesn't help that ms. Tate annoys the SHIT out of me.
Very unhappy that she'll return for at least one special next year.

Jordi, you actually liked Will Smith's performance? shocked
To me it was just the umpteenth confirmation that Smith doesn't know how to play anything but Smith.
God, what an ego vehicle this was (again). Apart from the goblin look and the weird religious thing he's seriously starting to get into the Tom Cruise class of Ego Actors.

Will Smith is close to Keanu Reeves, Adam Sandler, Ben Affleck and other NON-actors out there, IMO. I just saw ALI the other day, and by God, what a piece of shit acting. Here was a chance to truly display any skill (much like Jamie Foxx, Smith's co-star in ALI, did with brilliance in his take on a real-life character in RAY).

I'll see I AM LEGEND, but only because of the story and genre, not the charisma-less Smith who never grew beyond his goofy teenage role in PRINCE OF BEL-AIR.

I think Smith has a 'likeability' factor that makes him bankable, he also has more charisma than Reeves, Sandler & Affleck put together though that isn't saying a lot.

Martijn, I agree on Catherine Tate.....I wish she wasn't in it at all.

Jimmy Stewart's Shenandoah. I think he was a damn fine actor. Lovely music as well, by a chap called Frank Skinner.
  3. Watched David Mamet's HEIST on the weekend. Fantastic film - I like it more every time!

I liked it too! It seems to be one of those films where people love it or hate it without much views inbetween?
