Personally I think Thriller is overrated,
No, not at all. It deserves what it gets right now. I don't think Thriller is overrated. I find most innovative and inventive music in this album. There are certain tracks like Thriller, Beat it, Billie Jean, Human Nature, Wanna be startin something etc, which sounds new to me even at this present modern days. At present days, pop music sucks. Nobody can climb up the height of achievement that he had reached. I say Thriller is even now best pop music album in the universe.Racism, Prejudices and discrimination exists everywhere. -

What is it about this new work that makes it stand apart from the others.
You mean this new recording? For me, it's the excellent sound quality, excellent playing, and very good interpretation with some added umph in the last movement. And the brass section is incredible. -

LE NOUVEL AGE....IGOR MARKEVITCH It is played by the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Christopher Lyndon-Gee.
The limited experience that I've had with Markevitch was an LP set of him conducting the (6) Tchaikovsky Symphonies on the Philips label. There is also a "Cinema Ouverture" but it is based on the Strauss "Blue Danube" and a Sinfonietta in F. First listen.

For once I have to agree with you!
Don't worry about Demetris, he's anti-Michael."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Excellent choice! I'm constantly baffled by the way Bernie Taupin's mind works. His lyrics somehow manage to be both chaotically diffuse and thematically grounded at the very same time. He captures the most wonderful metaphores in those "semi-corny" formulations of his. -

NP:OVERTURE TO ORESTEIA....SERGEY TANEYEV
I certainly enjoy this piece a lot. An overture to an opera can easily be likened to a film composer making a suite from a film. This one is melodic, bold, and quite dramatic. A lot happens in 20 minutes!!!

A recent release from a NY Phil/Maazel Mahler cycle. This is a truly great recording, probably the best I own. -

I have been listening again earlier this week to a song by Rush entitled: Manatthan Project. Basically a rock song but two thirds of the way, a full orchestra comes in the mix to add a dramatic effect to the song. Reeeeeeeeally good.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of rock energy songs and orchestra mixed together?
Thanks. -

NP: MASQUERADE SUITE:....Aram Khachaturian
Lermontov's play also attracted the attention of Khachaturian, as he was composer of the incidental music for the 1941 production. While I've never seen the complete music, Aram put together a 16+ suite in 1944. To compare the material between Glazunov and Khachaturian is a lot of fun.

Another part of the Khachaturian CD has the "Sabre Dance" on it. Does anyone know how this work has ended up being associated with magic acts?

But you must like them William because you still keep buying the series.

That is true. Though this one is not quite as favorable to me as the others in the series. But nonetheless, they are all excellent performances. -
- CommentTimeAug 1st 2009
I've not heard any in the series so it is impossible for me to comment on them.
