Khamma: Legende dansee by Claude Debussy, a new Naxos release. This is a rarely played work of his incidental music for Shakespeare's King Lear. I need to relisten several times to get the full flavor of this work but it definitely has the sound of Debussy.

I have it on a CD conducted by Ernest Ansermet. A very old recording so I'll be interested in the Naxos, as you know, I'm a huge fan of Debussy.

    Urghhhh...I really dislike Debussy generally.
His style --what's it called again? Something like Naturistic or something? I cannot remember, really... -- gives me far too little footing to be able to grasp what he's doing.

    Impressionistic.

I'll not beat up on you for your dislike ( I feel much as you regarding Mozart wink ) but I'd recommend you check out a short piece by him called Engulfed Cathedral, the fully orchestrated version ( by Leopold Stowkowski, no less )

By the way, I think Debussy himself disliked the "Impressionist" nomer.
But I wouldn't know what else to call it.

He had a distinct sound that puts him in a unique category. Perhaps the term came from some of the painting that was done at the time of his composing. La Mer is one of the greater works of all time.

My love of music would be seriously missing something without Debussy.

NP: Scheherazade / Russian Easter Overture / Cappricio Espagnol - Rimsky-Korsakov

3rd listen, I still like it, there's just so much interesting stuff in it that it's hard to absorb in only a few listens, especially when I'm multi-tasking.

do I get extra credit for typing out that title every time?
