the trailer looks really interesting. this movie doesn't look like a modern over the top hightech actionthriller like DÉJÀ VU or PELHAM. from the location and the story i could imagine a more orchestral score. i think synth supense-action music like PELHAM wouldn't fit in this movie. i'm looking forward to the movie and the score.

smile The town was standard Tony Scott like snoozer but without the action cues, i.e. like his Gone Baby Gone stuff. Hope this isn't more of the same. Where's his PRINCE OF PERSIA self?

I wonder if the yucky generic cover is to match the likely generic score.

I can't imagine that I'm going to buy this - one low-key HGW thriller score per year is enough, and I already bought The Town - and its not that great....

Just saw the trailer for COWBOYS & ALIENS, and boy, did that come out of nowhere? Or, I didn't see it coming, at least, although the footage was shown at ComicCon. I just didn't know it featured Harrison Ford and was produced by Steven Spielberg and Alex Kurtzman (also written by) and directed by Jon Favreau. Music is by Harry Gregson Williams, who, after Prince of Persia, has another chance to show what he's worth.

Oh, and in case you were wondering: It's a western. With aliens. Yup. Sounds like perfect summer fun!

Yeah. I thought John Debney would have Cowboys and Aliens because of Favreau directing, but oh well.

    New project for HGW:

Harry Gregson-Williams to score ‘Cowboys & Aliens’

Movie's premise nothing great, at all.....

According to the film’s new trailer, Harry Gregson-Williams has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi action movie Cowboys & Aliens. The Dreamworks movie is directed by Jon Favreau, who worked with composer John Debney on most of his movies including Elf, Zathura and Iron Man 2.

I think I heard from somewhere that there's going to be a movie about cowboys and aliens scored by Harry Gregson-Williams. I'm too lazy to link anything right now, but if you search really hard you might be able to find one... wink

The film doesn't seem very appealing, but I'm definitely looking forward to the score. Prince Of Persia is a top favourite of mine this year.

Gregson-Williams' IMDB page says he is also attached to score The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1. His GSA resume doesn't confirm it, but I'm surprised Bill Condon isn't going to Carter Burwell to finish the series out.

    "The stanton Curver"

Let's see how many people will rip-off Zimmer's JOKER motif in DARK KNIGHT.

Listen to this track from UNSTOPPABLE, it's ridiculous. If Tyler Bates' did it, there would be lawsuits flying in the air already.

Really ? I listened Unstoppable the other day and I didn't even notice it. It says a lot about the attention I was paying to the score by the time that track sounded.

  2. HGW even worked with Martin Tillman on the score. Tillman famously performed the Joker's motif (in fact, half-invented the way it's done)

Zimmer and Gregson-Williams are still very good friends. Maybe he even asked for permission.

It's not that bad. I rather enjoy the action-ification of that theme.

Wasn't the whole track a "theme" of sort? A thematic movement, perhaps?
