    Nice one, Justin.

  2. Thank you. I just have stronger feelings about TV scoring late 1980's and below.

No new interviews lined up, but I am trying to reach certain people.

  3. With some delay, I am happy to put up Jay Chattaway's interview -- hope you enjoy:

  4. Very, very excited to say -- taking questions for an interview with famous Star Trek composer Gerald Fried!

Will for two weeks, so get 'em in. smile

  5. Don't mention this to him but I thought that he was dead! But glad he isn't!!

Looking at his listings on imdb.com he was very busy when he composed some iconic scores for the original Star Trek series, composing music for the likes of Mission: Impossible, Lost In Space, The Man From UNCLE, etc (themselves all iconic shows). Were all these projects separated in time or did they overlap? And if they did overlap, did he find it easy to focus on the different projects?

Also, The M Squad was one of the first scores he wrote for television. And it was the beginning of a long association with TV scoring. Was that you're own choice (rather than focusing on films) or did it just work out this way?

  6. Turning in the questions in about a week.

  7. Gerald Fried's interview is now up:

I hope you all enjoy. If the "jump to" feature doesn't work, scroll down a little; the ad coding messes with it sometimes, and I had to move it down so it didn't lap over the banner.

Being the busy bee I am, I am in the process of trying to get four more people to do interviews. :-)

  8. There seems to be an error message on the interview, Justin.

Now all you have to do is fix your website. It's the internet equivalent of one of these.

I would also suggest including at least one picture of Gerald Fried on that page, if not some more pictures of some of the TV episodes and projects he scored.
  10. Taking questions for an interview with:

    Ian Freebairn-Smith

He's composed for such shows as:

    "Magnum, pi"
    "M*A*S*H"
    "Cagney & Lacey"

    Standard two weeks taking questions.

  11. Proud to announce, again, two more interviews:

Orchestrator Patrick Russ, who had a logn working relationship with such composers as Elmer Bernstein and Maurice Jarre.
If I can get other people to reply, this will be a series of interview to follow where I talk to other people -- like himself -- who work in other aspects of the scoring world aside from the actual composing.

    And Michael Convertino.

Since Mr. Russ has worked with such people, I decided to extend the question taking time to three weeks for him.

Convertino questions will be taken anywhere from a month to three months, so ... no excuse to drag one in at the last second.

Again, as a banned FSM member, I can't get over there to post and let people suggest, so if anybody wants to do that, feel free.

  12. If you don't have this question prepared already:

How did you work with Elmer Bernstein and Maurice Jarre? How precise were the sketches you had? Did you *actually* have any freedom with the way you handled orchestrations, for example giving a line to an instrument on your own?

  13. I'm turning in the questions to Patrick Russ tomorrow, so last chance to get something in. Situations here on my end have forced me to move it up by a few days.

  14. Justin, will you use my question or you planned on it yourself anyway?
http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website
  15. Yes, though half of it was already covered in similar questions by myself.

  16. Russ is busy, that's why there's been a delay, but it's coming. Will have a unique image banner, by the way.

Next up on the chopping block:

    David Bell.

As with Chattaway, I am extending my normal two week window for questions suggesting, and moving it to a full month.

Any good and/or interesting questions might get used.

  17. Just letting you guys know I will be turning in the questions Monday -- still time to get suggestions in.

  18. Okay, next up for interview is the guy who everybody keeps wondering about, keeps asking what happened to him, every curious what he is up to ... the mysterious:

    Brad Fiedel

As with Bell, I am extending the question taking time to one month, so you all got plenty of time to think of questions.

  19. I guess I'll spend most of this month learning *who is* David Bell!

  20. Just a reminder about questions for Fiedel.

Ask him about his concert works and oratorios. I think he's written several. Does he plan to release any of them? How do they compare to his film work?
    I am extremely serious.
  21. Turning in the questions Saturday -- just thought I'd give you all a "Last call".

Just the other day I noticed his name in the credits on the back of the LLLR "Dragonslayer".

  24. Next up for interview is music editor Bob Badami
    CREDITS: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0045941/

I'm fairly certain, by that picture on his page, that his mustache could beat up tom Selleck's in a fight.

Normally I would do two week of question taking, but the holidays makes this all wonky. I'll take questions until the 26th.

  25. You are actually interviewing a guy who regularly works with Zimmer??
