I like to play keyboard and some acoustic guitar (still learning, mostly self-taught). Would love to learn violin!

I have great desire to play keyboard. Unfortunately, i never get opportunity. By the way, do you play any film score cues on your instruments?

I play mostly film score cues only. wink

BTW I'm not too good at keyboard either, as I'm self taught. I'm using guitar more for composing these days, though my strumming has gotten better too.

Me too. I am also not professional Violinist, but i have learned violin for 3 years, that too, when i was in school. After that, i just play on my own. As you know, Carnatic music is so famous in south India, i have learned, but not thoroughly. wink

Oh yes, my parents and rest of my family are all lovers (and good singers) of Carnatic music (we originally hail from South India too). I like some of it too but I don't listen to it. But it's incredibly hard to sing and can blow many of the professional "singers" out there out of the water!

Yeah, its very very difficult. You have to be so orthodox and dedicate yourself to Carnatic Music. By the way, i am very glad to hear that you have good carnatic singers in your family. Are they professional singers or leisure singers?

Leisure singers. My grandma actually sings very well but due to family stress she couldn't go into the professional area. My aunt is very good at it too. I cannot tell you how amazed I am at the amount of vocal control legends like M.S Subbulakshmi (RIP) and Balamurali Krishna have. They're phenomenal!

Absolutely! Balamurali Krishna is born musician/singer. Remember, he can compose music very well. He is highly equipped and has great knowledge of music.

    I play some percussion.

Also, I know a tiny piece of piano, mostly self-taught.

I've always wanted to master an instrument properly (esp. piano), but I'm too old for that now.
    I am extremely serious.

    Thor,

Music doesn't have age and you too. You might be old but your spirit of music that exists within you that doesn't have any age at all. Age is not huge factor in playing or learning music. You should have interest and moreover, you should have spirit. Music is greatest gift from nature as well as from God. I tell you, if you have will, you can be master in any instruments.

    All the best

I could learn to play it decently, I guess, but not be the "master" I could have been if I had started at age 6. And I'm kinda perfectionist that way.

    Thor,

You know very well that John Williams became world wide popular when he was 42 years old. So, you can be the master if you have balls to accomplish or fulfill your desire or dreams.

I gather you speak of Timmer's signature quoting me, rather than my signature quoting Sunil.

I assume 'thy' is a possessive form of 'thou'? I've often wondered because, as in the case here, it's also used as an accusative. Enlighten me O penisy one.
