  1. THE BUCKET LIST
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music Composed by Marc Shaiman
    Jack Nicholson
    Morgan Freeman

Corporate billionaire Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) and working class mechanic Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) are worlds apart. At a crossroads in their lives, they share a hospital room and discover they have two things in common: a desire to spend the time they have left doing everything they ever wanted to do before they “kick the bucket” and an unrealized need to come to terms with who they are.

Together they embark on the road trip of a lifetime, becoming friends along the way and learning to live life to the fullest. Each adventure adds another check to their list, all done with insight and humor.

The beautiful and heartfelt score for THE BUCKET LIST is by Tony Award-winning (Hairspray) composer Marc Shaiman, and features acclaimed recording artist Chris Botti on trumpet. Rounding out this musical feast are a selection of newly recorded themes performed by Marc Shaiman himself!

It’s a brand new score along with a fun look back at an astounding career … all on one CD!

Warner Bros. opens THE BUCKET LIST for Academy consideration on Christmas Day and will open nationwide on January 11.

Has anyone heard it yet? Judging by the film I'm assuming it doesn't have that regular Marc Shaiman-nuttiness to it?

    It's a nice score.

The highlight however is a witty little song written by Shaiman about his experiences in the sound mixing process - set to the tune of Goldfinger...

    Printmaster...
    Sound and suits,
    Alone with the mixing crew--
    There goes that cue!

    A music disaster...
    You'll hear screams
And hip hop and bombs galore--
    But not my score.

When on screen the lead actress comes round,
Every hair on her head makes a sound,
But her theme that I wrote, and I love the most
    is TOAST,

    Cause it's the Printmaster,
That end title I slaved over
    Now is gone--
    In its place, Celine Dion!

    But we must move faster,
So i'll go, but first I'll beg on my knees...
    Mixers please!
    Turn down that sneeze!
    Use your mutes!
Lose the guns, raise the flutes!
    Oh, I'll never win!
The 3-6 mafia just walked in.
    Drop that crowd!
    Make me proud!
    Leave me LOOOUUUD!

Lol, is that song on the end of the disc?

Edit: Never mind, a second disc I see... (or is all that stuff on the end)?

It's all at the end. There's a load of piano versions of Shaiman themes from other versions (along with a very nice, hymnal choral version of the theme from American President)

Does anyone know how to reach this guy? Is it just the usual drag of going through Kraft Engel? sad
  2. I got his direct e-mail from hte interview I did with him. In fact, I wrote him and got a response the other day. If you wish, I can pass on your details of what you are doing, to him. PM me.

Look two posts up and you'll get the jist of what I want to ask. wink He seems like a ''if people want it then might as well try and get it out there'' kinda guy, I'm just interested on what his view is and if he'll do anything about it. Curse Disney! sad

Shaiman is a very approachable guy. He even emailed me a couple of times to make comments on reviews I wrote. I doubt he could do anything about releasing George of the Jungle though.

I'm not bothered if it's (not) released, I just wonder if composers ever think ''hmm...perhaps I should do a promo...''....a very late promo in this case. wink

Basically, it's #2 on the list of my favourite scores ever.

Here's an awesome little song Shaiman wrote sang at the American Society of Composers and Publishers this year. Funny, sad, and regrettably true.

    http://www.ascap.com/eventsawards/award … aiman.aspx

    Here are the lyrics:

You can't write a melody, 'cause today they just want groove.
If today a guy wrote "Laura," all the suits would disapprove.
And if Max Steiner wrote them "Tara's Theme,"
All the good notes they'd remove!

'Cause the temp scores just go round and round,
All they want is a synth and a ghosty sound.
If you write "Lara's Theme" then you won't stay 'round today,
'Cause they just want the beat!

Everytime I hear drums and drone,
It seems Hans Zimmer's given birth to yet another clone.
When you get hired for a score, it seems you're not alone today.

    'Cause they just want the...
Motion of the ocean but without a theme.
And yet it seems to get a score like that, you need a team!
    If Hank Mancini were around,
I think he'd cry and scream "Oy vey!"
'Cause they just want the beat!

Pretty soon they won't care if you died,
'Cause in the future I bet every score is CGI'd,
'Cause every film is just a comic or an Xbox ride today.

    'Cause you can't stop the...
Prequels and the sequels that just leave me bored.
Or should I pluck a few Gustavo licks to win an award?
Bring me a bottle and a joint; I'll be at Betty Ford! Olé!
'Cause they just want the beat!
'Cause they just want the beat!
'Cause they just want the beat!

While I can honestly say that I've never heard even one score by Marc Shaiman, the fact that he's willing to publicly diss Hans 'king of the no-talent hacks' Zimmer officially makes me one of his fans.

I haven't got any Shaiman music and so far I don't intend to. I've heard nothing to make me sit up and take notice.

I'm sure he'd be a good crack to go out for a drink with though beer
