I was listening to Cyril Morin's most recent score Cartouche earlier on. It is a cape and sword TV movie so it has a big orchestra, harpsichord and snare drums. Right from the beginning, Morin presents his exciting main theme, grand in scope and it is reprised near the end ( A New world) of the cd with a counterpoint played on violin. So good! The secondary theme was obviously temped tracked with "Everywhere Freesia" from Meet Joe Black by Thomas Newman but heck why not? It only last 2 minutes after all. It also has a love theme. Very good score.

  1. Cyril Morin's work is something that I have only recently listened to. The clips to Cartouche sound good.

Something else I would recommend is his recent score to The Evolutionist.

    Thomas
    listen to more classical music!
  2. Both Cartouche and The Evolutionist are available as digital downloads. I'm not sure on any CD label.

    I certainly do!

Incidentally: that score is in dire need of a re-recording. slant

I've been a Morin fan ever since I heard Samsara and Zaina. I haven't caught up to his releases in the last year or so. I'll be getting Cartouche, Evolutionist (it's not a score) and The Unmistaken Child next time I have some $$.
I love how he writes for strings. There's a gorgeous ebb and flow motion to it, and when he infuses it with just a bit of exotic instrumentation it's simply delightful!

If you haven't been sold on Morin yet, then check out just two tracks-
Go to http://www.cyrilmorin.com/ click on English-> Discography -> Soundtrack
and check out the full tracks of Samsara and Pleure En Silence punk

Damn! No wonder I couldn't find anything about it on imdb.com! With my strict listening criteria I'll have to delete this as soon as I can. wink

    (But it is good anyway.)
