I notice that there hasn't been a topic started for this composer so I thought I would rectify this.
Davis is not a composer I regularly listen to and for many years my main avenue into his music was via his theme to the TV series The World At War (not much I admit).
More recently my interest in his recent music for silent films was piqued by Erik who recommended several tracks from the 2-CD set, "The Silents" (I think that the "Finale" from The Wind was one of them).
I've recently been listening to his recent release of music to the BBC series Cranford. This is very different to the style of music I usually listen to but my enthusiasm for the TV series has helped me to appreciate the music on this CD.
But what I really wanted to highlight with the opening of this topic is that Davis has "in preparation" a 50+ minute CD featuring music he composed to the silent film Napoleon (10 minutes of which were featured on the aforementioned 2-CD set). I haven't seen any reference to this score being released in anything more than the tracks on the 2-CD set and I remember looking for something more from this score when I listened to "The Silents" so I'm looking forward to hearing a bit more.

Yes, his NAPOLEON is fine, but I prefer the original Honegger version. -

Naxos has just introduced 3 Carl Davis on his new label Threefold. They are the ballet Alice in Wonderland, the tv show Cranford, and the film The Understudy.

If you get the chance I STRONGLY recommend it, one of the greatest ( if not THE greatest ) documentary of the WWII ever made, a true masterpiece. -

I'll look forward to hearing your views on it Tom, it takes it from it's political build up, the invasion of Poland, the battle of Britain, the allied campaigns, the pacific, the bomb, the holocaust, and the aftermath and so much, much more, truly fascinating and at times harrowing with many horrific images and many moving testimonials from veterans of all sides involved, I would recommend anyone who's never seen this to make it required viewing, truly unmissable TV. -

A newly cleaned up version will be made available on DVD next month, and quite cheaply as well.
So very worth looking into! (I'm not familiar with the series either other than in name).'So, this is pretty much the worst original-to-remake transition in the entire history of film scoring. Poledouris...to Bates.' ~ Scribe -

There is a new release Beatles for Orchestra from Davis. There is nothing ground breaking about it but it is a pleasant one hour experience.

Personally, I shudder at the thought of this one. Which is funny because I used to love the orchestral arrangements of rock tracks when I was a lot younger. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

I tried listening to the "Beatles For Orchestra" but I couldn't even finish the first clip. I found it terrible.
Much more worthwhile, IMO, is Davis' "Heroines In Music" that features suites from his scores to The French Lieutenant's Woman, Pride and Prejudice and Cranford:

Heroines is nice for sure. My appeal goes back to my band days I'm sure. I adored the trombones in The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. -

Following up his Beatles material Davis has a new CD called Up In Lights. He seems to be the new Arthur Fielder and the Boston Pops.
