I liked the Infinity War movie, but Alan Silvestri's score was, for me, mixed. On occasion, it really worked.
Cap's entrance, Gamora's death
. Yet the action music was again muddy and dull, and moreover, he didn't utilize the MCU's other themes!
Bach's music is heartless and robotic.

Mostly agree with you, the Black Panther theme was used but none of the others as far as I could hear? Loved the film.

It probably won't do much for you other than the spectacle if you've only seen Iron Man. The Marvel universe is tied together by so many events in the other films, particularly the two previous Avengers films that lead up to this and the post credits sequence at the end of Thor: Ragnorak which starts off this film.

there's 18 other movies before Infinity War, and while they all "connect", there are certainly a few worth skipping.

Even though I don't like comic book films I've watched almost all of the Marvel series. (Don't think I've watched any of them twice.)
1. I have to say that the Marvel film I tend to return the most to is Winter Soldier.

I imagine I'd be the same. Comic book films tend to have very little re-watch value for me.

iron Man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man are the only Marvel films I've returned to. And when it comes out on Blu-Ray I'll gladly re-watch Black Panther.

I'm glad you highlighted "Forge" as the best cue. It's cue of the year material for me, a perfect action track, forgoing frenetic mayhem for a chugging powerhouse, building to a majestic finale.
Bach's music is heartless and robotic.

I don't get the love for this score. It's Silvestri on autopilot. It's rather bland and forgettable.

Agreed. I've always felt Silvestri does his best work when given the opportunity to write strong thematic material. Since this obviously wasn't the case here, he just went through the motions. Likely fine for the film but if I want action from this composer, I'd rather just put on Mummy Returns or Judge Dredd.

3. Thanks for the spoiler warning. I shall return to read it after I have finally seen the film.
4. I saw a show yesterday at a planetarium about the winter sky constellations. The show was scored with Silvestri's music from Contact. Very nice!

Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Here are French Horn & Trumpet covers of several cues from BTTF2 !

As usual I transcribed and re-recorded all of the horn/trumpet parts and also had some fun with a few others smile

THE ABYSS is 30 years old today -- one of the most important films and scores of my life. I've written a 'love declaration' to the score here, in Norwegian (use Google Translate if interested):

http://celluloidtunes.no/the-abyss-alan-silvestri/
I am extremely serious.
6. Without reading it I full-heartedly agree! smile

EDIT: Read it in German. Fine review! Google made it more funny a text than you intended it to be though.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

You can never go wrong with Google Translate for a laugh! smile

(although it's improved over the years; I just translated it to English, and it was surprisingly coherent for the most part!)
I am extremely serious.
7. Google Translate is pretty good these days. DeepL is even better. I'm a translator and I'm pretty sure 90% of the industry will be automated out of existence in the next 20 years.

Thanks for the tip! Alas, Norwegian doesn't seem to be part of DeepL's language options.
