  1. For ages I've been meaning to put together my own version of the music used in Kubrick's The Shining.

I've gathered together the following pieces in order to make a start:

    Title Music - Wendy Carlos
The Rocky Mountains - Wendy Carlos
    Lontano - György Ligeti
Music For Strings, Percussion and Celesta: III. Adagio - Béla Bartók
The Dream of Jacob - Krzysztof Penderecki
De Natura Sonoris No. 1 - Krzysztof Penderecki
De Natura Sonoris No. 2 - Krzysztof Penderecki
Kanon For Orchestra and Tape - Krzysztof Penderecki
    Polymorphia - Krzysztof Penderecki
Utrenja, Part II, 1. Ewangelia (The Gospel) - Krzysztof Penderecki
Utrenja, Part II, 4. Kanon Paschy, Piesni 1 and 3 - Krzysztof Penderecki
Utrenja, Part II, 5. Kanon Paschy, Piesn 8 - Krzysztof Penderecki
Utrenja, Part II, 8. Kanon Paschy, Fragmenty - Krzysztof Penderecki
Heartbeats and Worry - Wendy Carlos

    I'm wondering if:

    1) Anyone knows the specific piece from Utrenja that's used, and (and this is the really sad part),

    2) For the non-Carlos pieces, does anyone know the specific sequences of music within the (sometimes) large cues that are sampled by Kubrick (I know that several cues are sampled multiple times)

    Cheers!

Krzysztof Penderecki, such an inspired musical choice.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Nope. I'd need to find out how to do this. (Even lazier!)

After having looked through all the clips and hunted down the (approximate) locations of the clips in the tracks I have a greater appreciation of how good a job Kubrick did with the music. Hearing what was originally written for this movie, I can't imagine what the film would have been like with Carlos' music. Worse probably.

I'm sure that there are other places that the music appears, but the 47 minutes worth of music gathered together (with some duplication between tracks) gives me a good reproduction of the feel of the film.
